*** The "crappy radios" are most consumer-grade analog radios which
have been manufactured in the past decade or two. less electivity, less
fidelity. They wwere hanging their collective hats on that at the start
of promoting HD because it would yield better quality ( although at
that point they were down[playing the need for an entirely new radio. )

Cleaning up AM so that it sounded as good as it did on a quailty tuner
or receiver from the 1960's would have achieved similar qwuality
without all of the downsides.
