Joe:
I was actually at MSU for only 2 years. I did two years at St.
Clair County Community College, then transferred to State, attending there
from September of 1972 until I graduated in June, 1974. That was the era
when MSU beat Ohio State three out of four years, 19-12 in 1971, 21-14 in
1972, and 16-13 in 1974. By the time of that last win I was in seminary in
New England. I watched that game on TV with a bunch of guys from all over
the country. You may recall that the contest ended with an illegal
procedure penalty against the Buckeyes on the MSU 1-yard line (OSU was not
set for a full second before they snapped the ball). When the refs came out
announced that MSU had won that seminary lounge exploded. It was then I
realized it was not just folks in Michigan who couldn't stand Woody Hayes.
That was also the game when Woody hit a fan.
