Charlie, et al,
Camp Lejeune, NC, frequently has their HAR's on the air: 530, 1610
and 1640 kHz with either local IDs repeating ("This is Camp Lejeune's
Highway Advisory Radio (or Station - have heard both)....", open
carrier, or National Weather Service rebroadcasts.
My QTH is 34 47 03 N and 77 23 15 W.
So, if you have a TIS/HAR with DF bearing roughly towards this area,
it may be Camp Lejeune. If you hear mention of "live fire exercises,"
DUCK! Actually, that would be a clue as to which station you have. I've
located each xmtr location, but would prefer not to list their
coordinates. Again, if the signal sounds like it's coming from this
area, it's probably them.
Of interest to me, plugging my location into Google or Microsoft
Streets program, there's a "slight" error in locating my QTH. My QTH was
determined using a couple of Garmin GPS units. Perhaps Google and
Microsoft are deferring accuracy due to this being a military area?
Mike
