Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Re: WGN Xmtr. Maintenance Period

Dear Paul-
You at a radio station, right???

Don't you know what RF 'hotspots' are??

BUT, perhaps at a low power stations like you have worked for there isn't
such things. I don't know as I have never worked at a low power station. The
transmitters I have been around all have had powers of 50kw up to 5
megawatts ERP.

Did you ever climb a tower that was next to a 50kw station? Did you get a
'shocking experience from doing so? Did you ever climb a tower? The towers
for WGN and WBBM are very close, maybe hundreds of feet apart. The stations
cooperate with each other when it comes to maintained.

Example: When I lived in Texas I knew a few of the fellows that worked for
channels 4, 5 and 8. Their transmitters were very close together, as well as
the antennas being on the same tower. In the WFAA-8 transmitter building,
everything was grounded to keep from getting a RF burn. And even then you
would still get a tingle at times.

Their tower, this was their old tower that was clipped by an F-14 Tomcat,
was 1,200 feet tall. I have never been to the new tower. I even got ride the
elevator up to the 700 ft level with a friend of mine for tower maintained.
Will never do it again!

Do you now see why WGN and WBBM both stations go off for tower work?
In the case tonight it wasn't need.

Willis
