Craig Healy just wrote a fair amount on the subject.

First of all, the beverage is horizontally polarized; the WABV
tower vertically polarized. That means the coupling between the
two would be minimal. In the event that the beverage DOES
modify the ND pattern of WABV, it would be a matter of detuning
the beverage so that it becomes "invisible" at 1590 kHz.

Craig wrote a piece a while ago about using a beverage strung
next to a radiating tower. It would probably be necessary
to put a trap in the beverage/receiver feedline to prevent
overloading the receiver while the station is on the air.
Otherwise, no great problem. That is, unless the beverage is
next to a high-power station.

I don't remember Craig commenting on problems with a beverage
distorting the DA pattern of a station.
