*** While I agree that the above is the only way to get from point A to
point B with any hope of success, a Federal mandate for AM would have
the same effect - AM would be done. Most of the smaller stations
wouldn't be able to afford to convert, and what would be left likely
couldn't get enough people to ditch all of their old radios and buy
new.
