Dennis,
Are you able to switch back and forth between radios with the same antenna
and hear it the JRC and not the Drake?
The most reliable bands to find signals at night are 80 meters and 40
meters.  40 meters can go dead at times lately, however.  Can you hear CW on
one of the sideband modes with the Drake?
You can usually hear CW on one and not the other.  I'll check mine out
tonight as I forget which ssb it is.  I think its LSB.
