I don't remember that one, but I recall another parody of the Edmund Fitzgerald song.   This one was about a barge full of  garbage that went down the eastern seaboard and across the Caribbean looking for a place to dump its load - everywhere it went , the crew was told to get lost.  From what I understand, it was based on a true event that took place in the 70's or 80's.  I heard Doctor Demento play it once or twice.
