Re: [IRCA] Internet delays

Patrick,

Every email message has headers, which email readers are usually set up to hide (since most people don't want to see them). They are cryptic and big, but if you set up your email reader to view message headers (for a delayed message), then read them, you will be able to see where the delay occurred. Email messages rarely go directly from sender to reader...they go through multiple hops. Its usually one of those hops in the middle that caused the delay. I don't want to go way off-topic here, but I could send you an example of headers in their decrypted form so you could see for yourself.

Has anyone else noticed intermittent delays on the Internet the past few
days? I first noticed it on messages such as this one cross-posted onto
2 lists. One list reflects the message immediately while the other is
delayed by as much as 36 hours. It is also happening on direct messages.
For example I just got a message from my employer that was delayed by 34
hours. But other messages are coming through in just seconds. Strange!
