I wonder about the direct burial black PVC that is used for underground
sprinklers? The stuff is available on rolls and you'd have no splices in the
underground part to leak later on. It is solid enough not to get crushed by
the dirt later on.
I don't have any idea about price though, but maybe it's lots cheaper than
solid PVC?
