Thats a great idea.  I have a large pizza wheel used to slice pizzas.  If  you attached it to a 4' handle it just might work.
Just have someone walk behind the wheel pusher and step on the little trench. The soil in the NW is usually moist.  I used some electrical wire today that had a nice plastic coating over the insulation. I believe it was 12 gauge.  Also have an edger that can trench.  But only 300' of power cord.
