[IRCA] Fun with wires..

I had some work in New Bedford today, so I brought along the wire and notch
filter..

Tuned the notch filter to 1340, and was able to pull WNBH down 20db or so.
It's less effective at the top of the band, it seems.

The 500' wire was rolled out in a roughly WSW-ENE direction in a straight
line. The site looks like it will take another 200 feet or so now, and
maybe as much as a thousand feet once the foliage dies off. At that time
the far ENE end will be right at the salt water of the harbor.

Right off the bat the 530 TIS from Horseneck Beach was heard at maybe ten or
so miles distance. Long Island was good on 540, and most of the bigger NYC
stations were absolutely solid. Boston and MA stuff was weaker, but no
significantly nulled stations were noticed. Everything I expected to hear,
I did. No real surprises other than the levels being good across the band.

The area from maybe 1280-1450 was not very good because of 1340 and nearby
1420. Beyond that it was good except for 1260 and 1500. These showed
intermod products.

The next trick is to add some wire I just won off eBay, and run two parallel
dissimilar wires to phase. Being able to use a transmitter site has proven
to be much more effective than I anticipated. I do need to build a couple
of 9:1 transformers so I can phase things..

Now, to set up and do some sunset work in New Bedford. The smaller number
of strong locals is a real plus, even with one a few hundred feet away.

If anyone local wants a crack at this, we can schedule something. The New
Bedford site is very user friendly. Walking distance to a mini-mart, a
Dunkin Donuts and a Subway. No rest rooms, though. Very easy access from
Interstate 195 as well.
