Re: [IRCA] TP for 23 Sep 06

Here's what I was hearing at Grayland on your frequencies with mysteries:

648	Russia oddly was there and was the only Russian
855	North Korea - oddly enough a handful of NK stations were in even
though Asian propagation was really terrible.
873	very weak Japan and weak North Korea
981	China CNR1 was there all morning

Were the frequencies without comments mysteries also?

It was a funny morning. Like you, I noticed even HLAZ was poor. Both Neil
Kazaross and I noticed that the TP's were better off of our DU Beverage (240
degrees) than on the TP Beverage (310 degrees). This was very often the
case! Disturbed conditions, it seems. The K index had shot up from 0 to 2 or
3) just before we were listening. Even with a K of 3, I'd have expected
better signals than we heard.

I was getting bored and ready to give it up when the DU's rose up just
before sunrise and we had a good rush from the band below about 800 KHz.
There were Aussies everywhere, including 540.

A strange morning. Very much sub-par. It's almost as if everything besides
the Koreans were turned off. The upper half of the band was essentially
dead. Even HLAZ was not propagating. Only 17 audios, most at poor
(6/10) levels. The Japanese were very attenuated compared to normal levels,
especially the NHK1 stations. A few mysteries to ponder too:

567, 594, 612 (4QR fading in only at 13:53, but fair), 648 (couldn't figure
out who this could be. Fair audio for just a few seconds at 13:35 and then
down into the mud. Clean modulation), 747, 756, 774 (the best NHK2 but only
a 7), 855 (not a bad signal at 13:19 //to SW 3250), 864, 873 (this one was
neat. At 13:20, nice clean audio, not // to NHK2. Wondered about Vietnam.
When rechecked at 13:37 and 13:46 // to NHK2 again), 972 (HLCA), 981
(wondered who this could be after 13:32), 1053 (jamming quite well heard
after 13:32), 1134 (at 13:49), 1143, 1287 (prob JOHR), 1575 (presumed
Thailand VOA at 13:45). That's it, unfortunately! .......Walt Salmaniw,
