Re: [IRCA] Zenith radios

Started DXng '62 w/tube Zenith T/O w/square dial. Our family had one as did
close family friend, 'Uncle' Joe Lorenzo. Lorenzo set in basement study
adjacent to blonde Philco TV. Lent Cold War surrealism to tense foreign b'casts. Red
twinlead tied T/O to Wavemagnet. You could practically see signals flash
blinding white sparks as they bounced from sky to walls to Wavemagnet. Indeed, many
saw.....

Tied our T/O in Pt. Judith RI to wire antenna strung out to tree, grounded to
pipe driven in salt tidal pond. Vistas opened. Ship/shore, air/ground,
foreign SW BC's, US MW's busted in. Sold late '82 along w/RF-2800 for second R-388,
which runs 24/7. Probably buy another T/O w/in next year but not yours. If you
have one, keep it, fine asset, beautiful DX machine.

Presently have Royal Crown 7000 T/O once owned by Jack McG____., former State
Dept. diplomat and drinking/poetry crony of father of lifelong friend,
'Judge' Stephen. McG. gave T/O to 'Judge' Stephen's old man, who shortly thereafter
croaked. Prior to croaking, 'Judge' Stephen's old man, real life judge, gave
T/O to 'Judge' Stephen, who blared snot out of it nightly working as dishwasher
in college.

Fall '84, Royal Crown 7000 T/O falls silent, 'Judge' Stephen disgusted &
magnanimous. Tells undersigned: "Fix it, keep it". Complied. Presently located in
workroom/backup radio room/storm shelter. Works great barefoot, w/wire
antennas or w/RatShak MW loop.

Every receiver has a story.
