A case could be made that the island stations do pretty well when you are
far inland. From the east coast, Tarawa 844 and KORL 650 were the most
frequent if those words can be used for unusual receptions. For me, the
strongest station of the DU-TP-island crowd was 774 Australia. Nary a true
TP (Japan, China, Koreas) was ever heard by me from the east coast. 

Those polar routes are real TP killers and really come into play for those
in central and eastern time zones.

Dennis,

The TPs always seem to go inland better than a lot of the Island
stations and DUs. But you should hear Tonga if you hear Tahiti though.
