*** I've been DX'ing as long, and I can recall similar cases 30 years
ago, at which time I was recording nearly all of my DX on a
reel-to-reel tape recorder. 

If a DX'er has written down some solid details which are strongly
indicative, there is far less need for a recording for that reason --
then it becomes that others want to hear them.
