[IRCA] West-coast Tofino Mini-DXPed report

3 days at Tofino with the Drake R8 and Wellbrook ALA100
April 14 - 17  2006

Overview by Time -- I MiniDISCed all of this with some good audio - will
sort it out in a few days.

April 15 - 1015UTC 702khz EE Sports (soccer) to good levels (assume AUS or NZ)
  1020UTC   738Khz FF Woman and Man w/ pop music Tahiti w/ excellent levels
  1025UTC   729Khz big carrier hammering activity on 730khz -- assume New Caledonia
  but little audio
  1028UTC   1116khz Assume Brisbane AUS w/ large signal and EE chatter
  1035UTC   891khz EE talk at good levels
  1040UTC   747khz EE talk on MiniDISC -- haven't analayzed yet
  1045UTC   792khz EE talk and sports - one of the biggest signals on the dial
  1048UTC   846khz Island music on MiniDisc to good levels - pretty reliable over listening period
  1050UTC   855khz EE Soccer at good levels
  1055UTC   702khz EE Sports and talk til after 1200UTC
  1058UTC   774khz EE Sports and News - assume 3LO Melbourne -- MiniDisced
  1105UTC   648khz Recorded about 4 minutes of seasonal sounding organ music - low modulation
  1112UTC   1017khz assume Tonga at good levels over most of the morning
  1122UTC   585khz caught music while tuning past here -- must study MiniDISC
  1125UTC   531khz several stations duking it out here - both in English!
  1128UTC   639khz big signal each time I passed by - assume Fiji
  1135UTC   1098khz noted good signal here later on in the listening session -- recorded
  1145UTC   567khz assume NZ - need to listen to MD -- good levels with EE chatter
  1208UTC   1008khz more of the same here w/ EE stuff or sports (must review MD)

Went back to bed at 1210UTC while things were in full swing - my bad.

APRIL 16 2006 AM UTC -- 12:00 ---> 12:30UTC   complete washout - NO audio on any splits!
APRIL 17 2006 AM UTC -- 12:34 ---> 12:43UTC  audio in 702, 774 and 657, a semi-washout.

Was staying at the Pacific Sands Resort in beautiful Tofino B.C. -
a moderately noisy location - with the ALA100 and Loop this
MiniDXped would have been a complete write-off.
