Re: [IRCA] Nevada on BCB..etc etc

Tim, I think your best bet for DXing near home is to head about an hour or
90 min east to the near desert just behind some mountains and find a safe
spot (good luck on that) where you can lay out a couple of BOGs about 150 to
200m length and phase away what ever local /semi local pests remain. I know
this isn't so easy any more with a family and if you hesitate to do this
alone and unarmed I don't blame you.

The site we initially used up that hill west of Rancho Bernardo has been
gated for about a decade, and I don't know what the access is to that site
east of Poway which was so good for Mexicans with Bevs sloping down the
hill. I did see that land near the Hwy (including what I used to own) on
fire a couple years ago on CNN when So Cal had all those bad fires !! If
there's access there, that should be a safe spot since it is far from the
border and what ever goes on around there with aliens and border patrol and
smuggling and whatever.

When I left SD 15 years ago, I had EVERY station in BC, BCS, Sonora, and
Sinaloa, along with much of Chihuahua logged, helped greatly by phased Bevs
there.

As far as bowling goes, my petite 11 yr old daughter is bowling quite well
now for her age and often breaks a 400 series.

I think sunset from eastern TX is a better time than sunrise for Nevadans
since most have unfavorable night patterns to the east. Dallas to Vegas is
1077 miles at 287.7 degrees and I honestly don't know what the serious QRM
would be on a loop aimed that direction which should decently null WGN and
XEDE (and KSAH or whatever else to the SSW) . KDWN gets out great on day
pattern presunset and I've honestly been able to hear Savage's voice up to
45 min prior to their sunset with my phased setup 12 miles NNW of WGN's tx
and I am about 1500 miles from Vegas.

Memphis is also somewhat closer than here and the same looping idea to loop
WGN should also work. Reno (KKOH is further) about 1660 miles from here, and
I can get them thru phased WBBM (13 miles) but, in general it is a bit
easier to catch KDWN 720. Other NV's logged here are 840 due to presumed
pattern malfunction. 1140 once for an add string via sunset skip 11 years
ago with WRVA phased out, and KHWG 750 via sunset skip on superb SSS nights
or when they leave day power on late. I've tried for some other
possibilities but no luck.

For those who do sunset skip DXing to catch station on day rig, early March
(in a couple days) can be very good and will have many targets on day rig
for 30 to 45 minutes later than in Feb. Also, it is easier to be home from
work in plenty of time for sunset skip in March.
