Jim, a couple of points about audio quality. A good outboard speaker usually does wonders for audio. Also, I don't know about you, but I DX pretty exclusively in SSB, which usually gives a crisper sound and the ability to get to the side with the least splatter. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks to everyone who responded regarding my request for info on the IC-R71A. I’m still thinking about it, but opinions were about 50-50 on either side. Biggest complaint from users was poor audio quality … certainly an important consideration on BCB as opposed to someone who planned to use the receiver for SSB or some kind of data communication reception.

 

Again, thanks to all for the advice.
