Re: [IRCA] Tecsun DR-920

Now that I've had more time to tune around with
the DR-920, I have discovered that the band
limits I sent out yesterday were the "spec"
limits. I should have known that each radio
may have its own set of limits. Here's what
I've found on mine:

FM - 75.4 to 109.3 MHz
MW - 526 to 1656 kHz
SW1 - 3.815 to 4.370 MHz
SW2 - 4.705 to 5.300 MHz
SW3 - 5.845 to 6.430 MHz
SW4 - 6.950 to 7.900 MHz
SW5 - 8.990 to 10.050 MHz
SW6 - 11.510 to 12.495 MHz
SW7 - 13.355 to 14.175 MHz
SW8 - 15.050 to 15.745 MHz
SW9 - 17.490 to 18.725 MHz
SW10 - 21.345 to 22.445 MHz

I think a caveat should be inserted here --
I have not actually compared these freqs
with one of my digital radios. Since the
DR-920 is essentially an analogue radio
with a digital frequency LED readout, these
band limits may not be true.

So, if you were wanting to listen to
WWV/WWVH, you could get the 5 MHz and 10 MHz
stations, but not the 15 MHz one. Likewise,
you could get CHU at 7.335 MHz only. The
3.330 MHZ and 14.670 MHz CHU outlets are
not covered.

I have also noted that the Radio Habana
outlet on 5.025 MHz (SW2) also shows up
on the SW1 band. This would imply that
the DR-920 is single conversion and thus
prone to images and birdies, which I have
found to be true.

BUT ... I'm still happy with the radio.
It looks cool, the dial light illuminates
each time you tune the radio or press one
of the buttons, stays on for a second or
two, then goes off. It's very easy to
operate with straightforward (i.e.,
"intuitive") controls, and has just enough
Chinese lettering on it (the major controls
are all labeled in English) to be a great
conversation piece as it sits on my desk
at work.

73 and GREAT DX!
