Re: [IRCA] Digital Radio Recorder

Right you are Nick.

In reply to the original post on "Shortwave-SWL-Antenna", I sent the following:

-------

Be aware that the Radio Your Way has been around for a while and the one
they're selling is the discontinued older version.  The new, much
improved version -- as well as a close out on the original -- can be
seen here:
    http://radioyourway.com/
or the new one at the manufacture's site:
    http://www.pogoproducts.com/radioyourway.html

The old version will play but does not record in MP3 format -- using a
proprietary format instead -- the new version does both in MP3.
Recording can be of AM/FM/Mike/Audio-In.

These RYW radios work well as stand alone AM/FM radio recorders, nothing
special as to reception, but the scheduling is convenient for such
things as talk shows.  The old model got a lot of complaints about the
lack of ease-of-use.  The new model is reported to be better.

I have a no longer functional original RYW which served for a while
recording a daily talk program with the help of an auxiliary antenna to
pump up the signal.  Now it's dead.  A lot of that reported on the
original.  Now that its discontinued, replacements of bad units might be
a problem.

A stand alone digital recorder would probably be more convenient unless
the timer feature is needed.  A computer based recorder is most
flexible, assuming you have a computer next to your radio.

To answer your question directly, yes, either model could be used to
record from a receiver with Line-In audio.

Saw this on the website of the weekly radio program "A Prairie Home Companion". Says it's the first digital...well here, read for yourself. Wonder if it can be adapted to record from our SW receivers?

"...The first-ever portable and programmable digital AM/FM radio recorder captures your favorite daily or weekly radio programs and stores them as MP3 files for later playback. 32MB of internal memory holds over 4 hours of broadcasts; listen through the built-in speaker or included headphones, or transfer files to your PC with the included USB cable....

This seems to be the recorder / radio reviewed by  Curt Deegan in Nov 27, 2004 DX Monitor....
