[IRCA] Incredible Asian conditions for 25 October 2018

Fellas, I just spent the evening going over several Perseus SDR files from
14:28 to 14:42 or so and boy, am I impressed with conditions this morning.
I would venture that they even came close to my reception from Masset! Up
to this very late hour, I've only gotten up to 747 kHz, but here's the
catch up to now. 540, 549, 576, 675, 684 and 729 all yielded something,
but more burbles in the splatter, as Nick H-P likes to say!

531 JAPAN JOQG Morioka 10 kW JOQG, Oct 25 1431 - Tentative reception with
poor to fair level best heard at 14:36 // to very loud 594. Rarely heard
here, although common in Masset. Pretty much gone by 14:40.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

558 SOUTH KOREA HLQH Yeong-il 250 kW KBS 2, Oct 25 1426 - Good to very good
reception with EZL female vocal. // to 603. Faded down, then returned at
14:36 with pop music, but this time 603 was more powerful at good to very
good level, compared to 'only' good for 558. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

567 JAPAN Sapporo 100 kW JOIK, Oct 25 1429 - Very strong NHK1 programming
One of the winners this morning!. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

585 JAPAN Kushiro 10 kW JOPG, Oct 25 1440 - Finally a parallel to 594 by
14:40. Very weak. Seemingly // to YL on Tokyo's channel, but not so sure
a minute later when it sounds male! Perhaps cochannel, or another station
taking over the cannel. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

594 JAPAN Tokyo 300 KW JOAK, Oct 25 1427 - Very strong S9+15 signal with
NHK1 programming, but there's someone else there, weakly, cochannel. I'm
suspecting 3WV, and again at 14:32. Seemingly // to 612.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

603 SOUTH KOREA Hwaseong 250/500 kW HLSA, Oct 25 1427 - Very strong
reception at this time, but again, I can hear a weak cochannel speaker. //
of course to 558. At 14:35, I'm hearing NHK1, I'm pretty sure, which would
be the 5 kW senders from either Obihiro or Okayama (JOOG or JOKK). Those
only lasted for about 30 sec, before HLSA came blasting back.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

612 AUSTRALIA Brisbane 50 kW 4QR, Oct 25 1426 - Good to very good reception
with a call-in type program. Weak cochannels are there, but jumbled.
Faded to nothing, before making a comeback at 14:41. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

621 NORTH KOREA Hamgyong Pukdo 500 kW Pyongyang Bangsong, Oct 25 1427 - A
messy, buzzy frequency. Strong signal. One on 621.000, and the other ,
presumably North Korea on 620.931, with the latter slightly stronger. The
result is no useful signal. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

639 CHINA Multiple sites CNR 1, Oct 25 1427 - Chinese speaker (YL) with a
little forceful tone. Faded down by the BOH, but fair+ beforehand.
Suddenly back up to good + reception at 14:31. Even very good, with
Chinese newscast, with some fanfares. Ads at 14:33. Sounds almost like an
audio relay of television. Pretty much gone by 14:40. (Salmaniw,Victoria,
BC)

640 ALASKA Bethel 10 kW KYUK, Oct 25 1430 - Not KFI, as they went into NPR
news at the BOH. NPR ID again at 14:31:30. Pretty much gone after that.
Fair overall, with a lot of splatter from the high side.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

657 NORTH KOREA Pyongyang 1500 kW Pyongyang Bangsong, Oct 25 1426 - Gary's
favourite station, and just pounding in with entertaining marshall music,
although a little lighter than I remember from past years. Pretty clean
audio, too. Lost them shortly after the BOH, but back again at 14:38
equally strong. Just non-stop instrumentals. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

666 JAPAN Osaka 100 kW JOBK, Oct 25 1431 - Good to very good fade in at
14:31. // to 594 and others. Lasted only briefly, though, and faded soon
to nothing. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

670 ALASKA Dillingham 10 kW KDLG, Oct 25 1429 - Nice NPR ID sinching this
Alaskan. Good to very good at times, but faded down at the BOH. 41
degrees in Dillingham at 14:33, with Bristol Bay marine weather. This one
is a regular in Masset, and one of the strongest Alaskans I hear up there.
Continued strong to 14:42. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

680 ALASKA Barrow 10 kW KBRW (tent), Oct 25 1430 - Highly tentative. Low
modulation, but the same male announcer went on for over 10 minutes. No
ads or music, just the same monotone. Just seems so unlike KNBR or other
big city broadcaster, and much more like the small Alaskan AM operations.
Still, only a maybe!. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

693 JAPAN Tokyo 500 kW JOAB, Oct 25 1428 - Strong reception if not for CBU
Vancouver on 690. Best at 14:31 with English lessons. Better again at
14:41. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

700 ALASKA Anchorage 10 kW KBYR, Oct 25 1430 - Took me a while to pull out
the ID, but there it was right at 14:30 with the call letters. Had I kept
listening, I would have realized that it came in much stronger with many
references to the upcoming Alaskan gubernatorial elections. Good level.
Then local Anchorage ads. Later at 14:40 the frequency was taken over by
KGRV in Winston OR with religious programming. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

702 JAPAN Hiroshima or Kitami 10 kW JOFB or JOKD, Oct 25 1438 - Almost good
reception with English lessons on NHK2, // to 774, etc. At 14:30, I may
have been hearing a Chinese station, instead, though (very weak).
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

711 SOUTH KOREA Sorae 500 kW HLKA KBS 1, Oct 25 1429 - Actually good
reception at 14:29, despite major splatter from KIRO in Seattle, but
holding it's own through the BOH. And yes, // 864 as mentioned by Nick
Hall-Patch (but stronger). (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

738 TAIWAN Baisha 100 kW Taiwan Area Fishery BC Station, Oct 25 1428 - Fair
reception at 14:28, but with another cochannel. Lots of 730 splatter.
//1143 (which is much stronger). But got a lot stronger with EZL Chinese
vocals at 14:33 (and 1143 wasn't so strong then). Definitely // at 14:38
when both frequencies well heard. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

I'm hoping to complete the list tomorrow. 73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria,
BC
