[IRCA] TP 19 Sep Victoria version.

A rather frustrating morning here. Some less than usual signals peaked up, such as 657, but mostly things were splashy with lots of carriers, many with audio traces, and erratic fading. There was likely a fair bit of DX if one felt inclined to dig, but there's only so many hours in the day.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

594 JOAK woman in Japanese 1316UT, generally the kingpin today

603 HLSA soft music followed by woman in Korean 1326UT //558

774 JOUB Chinese lessons 1316UT

972 HLCA man in Korean, guitar music 1344UT; only briefly at this level

1566 HLAZ sign off of Japanese program 1344UT, dead air, and a pretty fair reprise with sign on of Chinese program.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK man talking //594 1315UT

612 4QR woman mentioning "round the dial Australia" hmmm. 1323UT

657 N. Korea assumed female operatic singing 1331UT

693 JOAB Chinese lessons 1317UT

747 JOIB Chinese lessons 1315 UT...brief break in 750 splatte

828 JOBB...Chinese lessons 1315UT

963 CRI woman in Russian 1344UT, // very weak 1323

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

891 JOHK man talking //594 1338UT

1287 JOHR woman in Japanese 1343UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

531 JOQG woman talking //594 1316UT

549 2CR ballad //612 1338UT, one of the few possible Aussies not buried by a Japanese co-channel

558 HLQH 1326UT soft music, woman talking //603

621 man talking, Korean? 1321UT. Seemed //819 with orchestral music 1329UT, so N. Korea, but not according to schedule

639 CNR1 man talking//1098 1323UT, both pretty weak, with a slight offset

666 JOBK woman talking //594 1343UT. Very much second tier here, so nice to hear in the splash

702 NHK2 Chinese lessons //774 1321UT

738 Taiwan Fisheries pop music, woman talking //1143 1324UT

819 N. Korea orchestral music //621 1329UT; brief appearance

837 JOQK man talking //594 1334UT

864 man taking, Korean intonation 1321UT. One of the many channels with at least one other station mixing things up

1017 maybe CRI, man and woman mumbling in a possibly Korean way 1326UT, not too much better than the 1001 carriers with mumbly audio this morning

1098 CNR1 as //639

1134 pop vocal 1334UT

1143 Taiwan Fisheries, as //738

1206 man talking Korean intonation 1324UT, usual 40 Hz low

1503 JOUK man talking //594 1334UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)

 675 711 729 756 846 855  918 936 954  1008 1044 1053 1089 1179 1242  1251 1314  1386 1422 1575  1593 seemed to be Asian;
585 738 909 1017 1098 1548 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick
