[IRCA] TP 14 Jan Victoria version

Normally I listen for an hour or so before sunrise, perhaps afterwards if conditions warrant it. After last night's geomagnetic upset, the expected occurred this morning, not much action after 1500UT......but...but....then there was a sunrise enhancement affecting both the top and bottom of the band, really kicking into life around 1540UT. I'm sure there is more on the recordings, but the sample below will have to do. This is not what Nigel and Steve were reporting.

The NHK2 stations signed off today at 1520UT rather than the normal 1600UT of the past few days. As a result, they were MIA when the opening occurred, though there were some strong carriers on some of their channels. (also, NHK2 had some stronger signals around 1400UT, and who knows, maybe overnight too. )

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1559UT
603 HLSA soft music leading to female vocal 1539UT; someone else there too, weaker, male talk

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

1566 HLAZ assumed, ballad, 1549UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

558 HLQH slow vocals //603 1536UT; another station there also
567 JOIK classical orchestral mx //594 1538UT
1242 JOLF? ballad 1542UT
1287 JOHR woman in Japanese 1544UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

531 JOQG traces of classical orchestra //567 1539UT
540 NHK1 classical mx //567 1537-8UT
585 JOPG classical mx //567 1539UT
612 JOLK classical mx //567 1538UT
747 JOIB woman talking 1519UT; faint music box 1523UT
1116 woman talking, Chinese intonation 1536UT
1251 CNR1 woman talking //1593, 1536-7UT
1134 woman talking, Japanese intonation 1535UT
1314 man and woman talking Japanese intonation 1545UT, but a few minutes later maybe preaching? possibly Philippines for the latter?
1332 female ballad 1543UT
1422 JORF? woman talking Japanese intonation 1540UT
1485 choral music, almost island style, better on North Flag 1542UT; Philippines?
1503 JOUK classical music //594 1543UT
1593 CNR1 man talking //6125 1539UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)

  621 639 774 828 972 1206  1224 1377 1431 1539 1557 1575  seemed to be Asian;
846 1098 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick
