Re: [IRCA] UNID 1575

Mauno,
Your Alberta observation agrees with what I've seen here. This season has been too poor for me to hear actual audio from either, but the Farda carrier has nearly always been stronger, and more consistent. Having said that, the Iranian seems better in relative terms than in previous years, when it was rare to even see a trace of Iran.

Farda is to 0°, but if I got right, as strong Abadan beams to 30° to 'protect' Tehran, so that shouldn't be bad for WCNA and Alaska. Maybe Farda puts more power to skywave angle to reach Tehran, while Abadan doesn't have to do that. Also Farda's audio compression may be stronger and they ID probably ten times more than Abadan.

I have only one file from Easter Islands and it hears only Farda weak, but also Iran has its carrier well present.

Both 1574.963 and 1575.000 kHz carriers fading in very weak now at 2250 via Alberta remote rx, the former weaker and more intermittent.

Farda is a almost everynight catch in coastal Brazil and the only station I have heard on 1575 in a variety of dx spots in Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and Easter Island in the past two decades. Iran is common on 1503, though

Don't forget that Farda is directional almost straight towards Alaska.
Finland is a bit off the Farda beam. I don't know Farda's exact pattern, so
can't say if that explains how things are in Finland.

Regardless of the antenna, it's always a bit risky to extrapolate from
reception elsewhere to Pacific NW reception. It just doesn't work half the time. If you did want to make that jump, I believe worldwide Farda is the
winner.

I seem to recall that Iran-1575 was quite common from PEI however.

The Abadan site and UAE are on about the same bearing from Massett
(though both have a somewhat more northerly bearing than to Finland),
so it does seem strange that they aren't heardin Massett as well, at
least sometimes .

best wishes,

Nick

It is strange, that Iran would be so rare there as I am about the

is not always easy to distinguish them by programming, easier by
frequency: Iran is about 40 Hz below nominal.

Hi guys,

Apologies for the short-sighted comments on 1575. I've never even heard
of
Farda! Please keep in mind that I've been an FM listener for most of my

don't
go globally aside from that region (and only have a working knowledge of the clear-channels heard in the Midwest and East in the US and Canada).
And
because the band is ridiculously congested in East Asia, that mainly

But VOA in Thailand: that's a regular in Korea that I am familiar with.

As I see it:

   - Niche Radio carries a dozen or more languages. Why should we
assume
they are in a mideastern language at this particular time?

    - Niche Radio was formerly Rete Italia and as such, was a
difficult DX
target.

     - The programming matches the modern pop mideastern sound of
Farda..
- I won't claim to be a great Farsi linguist, but I am going with Farsi on this one. I can have a native Farsi speaker give an opinion.

- Farda gets out very well and has been a morning visitor in much
of the
NW.

All of this is circumstantial, so no I can't prove anything yet. To not
even consider Farda as a candidate is very surprising.

And as best I know, no one has mentioned thinking this is VOA.
