Tampa Spanish Format Change
Haven't seen this reported anywhere yet. From
the Tampa Tribune, Baylife p. 2, Tuesday, 20
Sept, by Cloe Cabrera (excerpted)
WMGG 820 (Largo/Tampa) last week replaced its
salsa-merengue-bachata mix with Spanish oldies
and ballads, Spanish tunes from the 70's thru
the 90's. Mega VP Operations Rafael Grullon
says this is due to "changing demographics"
and "with the success of Reggaeton, aimed
at the 12 to 34 y.o. Latino listener, many
Hispanic adults are feeling left out."
Mega Communications is o/o of 7 Spanish language
stations in DC, Orlando, Philly and Tampa.
-
They are using "mega clasica" a lot, a diverse
mix of typical ballads, uptempo ritmos.
