I was DXing on 970 last Saturday evening (9/10 PLT).
Tuned in at 2256 to hear "Johnson 970" (KCMD - "all comedy radio" although
no call ID heard)... got a few "Johnson 970" IDs 2258 and a couple spots
mentioning Portland... this being one of the "new" stations I was trying
for.
About 2319 KCMD faded to reveal SS... which sounded like some sort of SS
"rock" show. At 2323 I heard what I think is a "Radio Juven" ID followed
by a long SS dialog. Unfortunately, I was unable to pick out any more of
the words (my SS is rusty) and I didn't have my recorder set up at the
time (drat).
At 2324, KTRW faded up with Idaho Vandals football game (probably a
replay)... a "Border 104" ID (I guess the station originating the
play-by-play)...
At 2355 the SS faded up again (long wait, eh)... with some sort of jazzy
sounding music (sounding like regular programming)... and dropped out at
the top of the hour (as expected)... but was back at 0003 with a ballad...
again sounding like regular programming.
So I continued to listen to the jumble... and about 10-14 minutes later
the frequency went DEAD... not even Portland was there. After about 10
minutes of "death" I decided to hit the sack.
Could I, perhaps, have listened to the beginning of the reaction from the
recent Geo storm... which tends to suggest that conditions become "most
unusual" right before death!! It has been a long time since I heard SS
there (XEJ I believe - although this could be a US station in SS).
Any thoughts would be appreciated....
