The excessive energetic protons currently
entering our magnetic field through the poles has reached 1040 pfu or 10+3. This
means that if you are traveling in a high flying aircraft or live north of the
Arctic/Antarctic circle you are receiving radiation at ground level that is
harmful to your health.
Also the Kp has reached a 5 which is minor
geomagnetic storming. What makes this noteworthy though is that it has occurred
due to CME's emanating from all of the X and M class solar flares that are not
even aimed at Earth!!! Soon sunspot group number 10798 will become geoeffective
(Earth facing) and we will probably see severe geomagnetic storming
(Kp-9) and visible aurora as far south at 28 deg. latitude in the near
future.
