Re: [IRCA] ETON/GRUNDIG

I've only played with one once; it was about 6 years ago inside a store in the early evening. I was very impressed with the whip antenna only performance on SW, and MW seemed excellent also. From what I've read there were some sample to sample quality variation problems when they first came out. It was the talk of the town so to speak when it came out but I haven't seen anyone talk about one in several years.

Subject: [IRCA] ETON/GRUNDIG

Paging through Discovery Magazine, I saw a full page ad for Eton AM/FM/SW/XM-Ready radios so checked out the web site (www.etoncorp.com) only to find that most of the product line was Grundig, a line which has not fared that well in list reviews. I did take a look at the Grundig Satellit 800 ($500) and was intrigued to read this:

"External antenna connections for the addition of auxiliary antennas, e.g. professionally engineered shortwave antennas; long-wire shortwave antennas; specialized AM broadcast band antennas for enthusiasts of AM DX’ing; FM broadcast band antennas; air band antennas."

There are just not a whole lot of radio writeups which actually refer to our hobby. I am not contemplating buying one of these but am curious if anyone out there has one or has played with one.
