Re: [IRCA] More available spectrum when TV goes digital.

The lower TV channels (From 2 to 6) range from 54 Mhz to 88 Mhz.   TV channel 7 is at 174 to 180 Mhz.   The LOWER VHF bands do NOT work well because of the frequency band.  HDTV signals break up and cause reception problems.   However -- those bands would work for analog FM broadcasting.    And if I owned any AM station -- not a fulltimer with 10 KW or more --- I would move to FM in a mili second.   What wonderful AM would be like -- without any daytime stations -- or even those old class 4 local stations -- all on FM.   Just pure AM with Clear channels.    The only remaining AMers would be fulltime GIANTS that you could hear for miles.  The value of any AM station moving to the new lower FM band would increase by 5 to 10 times in PRICE.   It would FORCE radio to broadcast PROGRAMS other than from a satilite feed.   If MILLIONS could hear Portland - Seattle - Phoenix - Denver - Chicago and Boston again --- it would happen.   If the AM station owners would get CASH out of the move --- they would puch the FCC to get it done.
