Following your suggestions and setting my expectations accordingly, I tuned and set my receiver for S9+10 on WSBR just before 8:00edt (the NRD535 meter was pegged before cutting back phaser gain to zero). At 8:12 -- 3 minutes before official sunset -- there was the brief interruption with noise for a second as you said Paul, then back to the investment infomercial.
The first thing I noticed was that IBOC had been turned off. On closer inspection I also found the new S-meter reading was 5db lower, paltry as you had predicted, Scott.
So the enduring splatter must be thanks to improved operations!
Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.
The good news is we have an Extreme Wobbler on 680 tonight!
