Mike,

It had to be Adak 89 you heard. Unless it was Elmendorf AFB (near
Anchorage) as they were on 890 I think in later years with 50 watts. It
was on 860 when I lived there in the 50s/60s.  It was rare in Seward.
Eilson AFB (near Fairbanks) was much more common with 50 watts on 1490.
I have several of the AFRN (as they were then) stations heard and QSL'd.
Kodiak on 960 with 250 watts was a regular.
