A while ago Nick Hall-Patch edited together a series of emails I sent about
the Radio Your Way from Pogo Products. That review appeared in the Nov. 27,
2004 (Vol. 42, #11) of DX Monitor. A few days ago Pogo Products began
shipping an upgraded version of the RYW dubbed the RYW-LX.
I do not have the RYW-LX but thought it appropriate to at least note the
primary improvements over the original RYW.
First a quick recap of the similarities. The RYW and LX are AM/FM radios
with digital recorder capability. Both units operate much like a VCR with
the ability for manual or timer controlled tuning and recording of either
radio function as well as of the built-in mic and external line-in. Ten
timer settings - start, stop, and source including tuning - are allowed.
Both can play MP3 and WMA stereo audio files and also support the RVF
proprietary format used for monophonic recording.
The RYW-LX can now encode recordings directly to MP3 format in stereo. This
is the most significant enhancement with the LX.
Other RYW-LX improvements include increased external SD/MMC digital card
support to 1GB, in-case rechargeable batteries, LCD back-light, optional
wired remote and charging cradle.
There are other more esoteric operational and functional improvements over
its predecessor.
