[IRCA] Don Erickson Story

I don't remember when (what year) Karl was President and Don was
Publisher but I volunteered to do the EDXR column.

Ifanyone can tell me when Karl was IRCA President I can get an idea of
when I began as EDXR editor. I did it for about 3½ years. I cannot
even find out when I first joined the IRCA. I'd love to know.

I typed it on a manual typewriter at work, after hours and then I got
sick of staying in the Jail (where I WORKED, wise guys) and did it at
home on an electric typewriter.

Oh Man, if I made ONE typo Don bounced the column to me. So I'd re-type
it and snail mail it to him a 2nd time, NY to CA. Well, the issue of
the Monitor that would have had it was sent out and then he'd re-bounce
the column and tell me it wasn't 'timely DX' ! Hi Hi Hi I swear this is
true. He made me angry sometimes, but not all the time. If I'm not
mistaken he quit that job and I think Ralph Sanserino assumed the
publishing duties.

Today with the internet we can type, send, correct and RESEND in
minutes. The old way was fun but WORK huh?

The Good Lord broke the mold when Don was created and now I'm sure he's
home with the Lord again. Rest in Peace my friend.

Ray
