There are ever so many stations with their towers in the bay, a bunch by the bay bridge on the Oakland side for instance but you're probably thinking about the big array down the peninsula a
bit. That would be the 1550 station, currently KYCY. Indeed, they used to be KKHI in the 50s-60s and probably into the 70s & 80s at least. They were the top classical music station in
Northern California. Palo Alto on 1220 tried classical also up to a couple years ago.

KYA? The original classic rock station of the bay area? I remember them well. Somewhere in the mid 80's I remember listening to their last broadcast as they went off the air on AM
permanently. My memory is dimming I'm afraid, I know the ordeal involved KSFO. Think KYA became KSFO's FM station or somesuch. After KYA signed off for good there was about a 3 or 4 minute
period of dead air and then with absolutely no announcements and in mid song KOIT hit the AM airwaves simulcasting their FM station. Sure a big deal to them, huh?
