[HCDX] WIGG TEST QTH RGV

Fellow DXers,

I started tuning in to 1420 kHz about 0858 UTC and received some QRN, but
no voice or music. As time passed, R. Formula out of Matamoros came in
fairly well. This station is about 60 miles ESE of McAllen, TX, my QTH. On my
2010 I switched back and forth from a whip to a random lw. Both were fair with
RX of R.Formula only. I also worked my R-2000 with an AOR-LA380 loop. I was
able to null out R. Formula, but nothing else was heard. I worked both rigs
for about 1/2 hour, when Spicy, my poodle, told me it was time to get back to
bed, so I did that. This was my first attempt with the tests and I was
disappointed. Maybe, I shouldn't be.

    Some Questions:

Was R. Formula too close by? Only 1 kw output. WRTH says that it to TX
until 0600 UTC.
Is a 12 inch loop too small? Indoors?
Did I expect too much down here in the RGV?

Any comments, suggestions or help would be appreciated.
