** ASCENSION. I am unusually bandscanning between 05 & 06 UT Dec 27, so some `new` frequencies catch my attn on 49m, in unknown language: 6170 at 0525 and 6135 at 0538. HFCC shows both are in Hausa, half an hour each, VOA first and BBC second. Convenient pair, could be same transmitter? Both are on a 547 antenna, but VOA is 250 kW at 27 degrees, and BBC is 125 kW at 65 degrees - quite a disparity. 65 aims at the SE corner of Nigeria, but 27 aims at Ivory Coast considerably to the west of any Nigeria. HFCC antenna reference shows 547 is ``EHR(S)2/2/0.8`` whatever that mean.
Hausa is a language for which I have no ``feel`` at all - there must be some keywords to recognize it, like however they say ``this is`` as in an ID. Did Dr Richard E Wood`s language recognition series ever cover Hausa? Don`t call me Hausar. Google translates ``This is the Voice of America`` as ``Wannan ita ce Muryar Amurka`` but I don`t know if they axually say that. It`s mainly spoken in northern Nigeria but also: ``Hausa is one of Africa's most commonly spoken languages after Arabic, French, English, Portuguese, and Swahili. It is a lingua franca and a language of trade in West Africa. It is spoken in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Eritrea, Germany, Ghana, Niger, Sudan, and Togo`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** AUSTRIA. Must be way out of synch at Moosbrunn, why?`` Roger Thauer replies: ``The main program from 1900-2100 was advertised as “via NDR Info + NDR Info Spezial”. However, their program differed 1 hour before. - NDR Info: “1 h warm up” - NDR Info Spezial: Children's program “MIKADO”. The 9635 kHz had therefore been fed incorrectly.`` And: On 27/12/2024 08:18, Uwe Volk wrote: ``Hello a-dxer, due to “duplicity of events” I was forced to record the above program. Listening to the recording today (9635 kHz), an obvious glitch of the NDR came to light: From 1800-1900 UT, “Mikado - Das Radio für Kinder” was broadcast. “Gruß an Bord” then afterwards from 1900 UT. Did nobody else notice this glitch? Many greetings, Uwe``. After a few days, rechecking my local Enid AM & FM pirates, Dec 27 circa 2025 UT: 95.1, $ tereo pilot of seemingly mono mostly Xmasmx, full quieting for only a few blox in downtown Enid. One tune includes notes like the chimes of Big Ben. 1670, at Box 1684 HQ, USPS on Broadway, loops directly east/west. Driving west on B`way it doesn`t really strengthen, and near intersexion of Jackson & B`way loops about S/SSW; several blox further west at Fillmore & B`way loops about S/SSE. This doesn`t really make sense. No ID heard, of course, but the only other SS on 1650 is the gospel huxter in Colorado. Still fails to fill overnight hours with continuous tone. I thought it was one pitch, but at Octoberend, Tim Hall`s NV/UT border DX said ``1650 KSVE TX, El Paso. 10/25 0604 - Still broadcasting a very loud trio of continuous tones (400, 800 and 1200 Hz) during the overnight hours.
