Logs
** BRAZIL. 28415 USB, Dec 20 at 2305, PY2PT mixing Spanish,
Portuguese, English in quick contacts including Oregon; his modulation
cuts out. QRZ.com: ``PY2PT Brazil flag Brazil, RICARDO RODRIGUES,
Caixa Postal 42066, SÃO PAULO, SP 04082970, Brazil`` - he has been on
DXpeditions to lots of rare islands such as Clipperton. Not much else
on 10m phone now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 28197 CW, Dec 20 at 2304, beacon VE7MTY, which really gets
out even now when not much else is heard. QRZ.com: ``VE7MTY Canada
flag Canada, Martin W Hill, 19696 115A AVENUE, PITT MEADOWS, BC V3Y
1P1, Canada --- The name here is Marty and the QTH is 20 miles east of
Vancouver, BC. I've been a ham since 1993. My qualifications are: CW
12 WPM plus Advanced. I operate HF all bands plus VHF/UHF. I've tried
RTTY, and Pactor. Beacon: I have been operating a ten meter beacon
since 1995 on 28.197 MHz running 25 watts. It operates 24/7. The
callsign is VE7MTY/B. The beacon uses a HTX-100 transceiver, an Antron
99 vertical antenna and a Freakin Beacon keyer. At the end of the CW
message, it steps through four, 1 second power levels. 25 - 10 - 2 -
0.5 watts. Ham radio = a great hobby! 73, Marty`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** GERMANY. 9670, Dec 21 after 0400, `Uncle Bill`s Melting Pot`
monthly featuring Greenland music is a bust via Channel 292, - no
reception direct, nor east coast SDRs nor European. If really on,
propagation very poor. Try the repeats at 18 or 22 which will require
remotes for us:
``1800-1900 UTC 9670 kHz with beam E-F towards South Asia but usable
in Europe and parts of Eurasia
2200-2300 UTC 3955 & 6070 kHz (omnidirectional for Europe and beyond)
All transmissions from Channel 292, Rohrbach, Germany`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, KUCO has made a number of program schedule changes
and finally updated here in CST = UT -6:
https://classicalkuco.org/schedule/
But they still refuse to display what airs early Saturdays! Dec 21 at
0600 we heard `Cafe Chill` which includes ambient music but too much
talk, previously at 0800; and when I roused circa 0900+ I think it was
`Retro Cocktail Hour`. Friday nights = UT Saturdays, `Hearts of Space`
and `Beyond the Barrier` have moved forward two hours to 03-04 & 04-06
UT respectively. `Reel Music` remains Fridays 19-20, but Saturday
repeat is at 22-23 instead of 17-18 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Dec 20 at 2258, REE S9+30/40 direct, weaker on
12030 and JBA carriers on 17715, 17755. 2300 opening token English
previewing topix: exhibition of refugee stories, and a plan to protect
minors/miners? from the internet. 2302 news leads with a bill to
reduce the work week from 40 to 37.5 hours with no reduxion in pay
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.003+, Dec 20 at 2258, VOT not off the air in IS & IDs,
S9+10/20 direct but too noisy. At 2334 into UTwente when measured,
S9+35 during talk about Syria; as often, refers to ``PKK and YPG
terrorists backed by the US``. I object! Wikipedia has very long
detailed article about PKK with 330 footnoted citations:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdistan_Workers%27_Party

``The PKK is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey,[25] the
United States,[26] the European Union,[27] and some other
countries;[28][29] however, the labeling of the PKK as a terrorist
organization is controversial to some analysts and organizations,[30]
who believe that the PKK no longer engages in organized terrorist
activities or systemically targets civilians - Wikipedia``

And about YPG:
``The People's Defense Units (YPG),[a] also called People's Protection
Units, is a socialist[4] US-backed[5][6] Kurdish militant group in
Syria and the primary component of the Syrian Democratic Forces
(SDF).[7][8]``
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Defense_Units
[The %27 refers to one version of apostrophe]

2341 outro `Weekly Analysis` and right into `That`s Why` repeat about
salt voiced by Efsun the axentuated. 2349 next check already in music.
2352 promo, s/off as if 13635 on 1330: something`s always awry at
Ankara, 2353 IS, off before 2356 uncovering Chinese which was already
underaudible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 273 MCW kHz, Dec 21 at 0725 UT, JBA carrier; the *only* NDB
anywhere in RNA list is: FK, `Airbe`, Ft Campbell / Hopkinsville KY.
Also JBA carriers on 227, 233, 251, 260, 272, 299 kHz, where there are
too many choices and none recognized as logged before, except on 251,
AM, Amarillo TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 365 MCW kHz, Dec 21 at 0249 UT, AA, 100 watt ND beacon for
Fargo ND but non, across in Minnesota, JBA. Seems my local noise level
is slightly lower above 300 kHz than below, but still a struggle to
pull anything thru. Xmas lights in neighborhood are no help.

420 MCW kHz, Dec 21 at 0251 UT, PK, 25 watt NDB at Olathe, Kansas
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2274 monitoring: confirmed Friday December 20
at 2300 on WRMI 9955, S9+20/30 direct but as always, undermodulated.

Also confirmed Friday December 20 at 2349 the 2330 on SW Radio,
Germany, 3975.002+, S8/9+10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Saturday December 21 at 0400 on WTWW-2 5085, VG
S9+40/50 direct. I had been apprehensive since 5085 was not on
earlier; not sure when came up but there at 0344 as I contacted
George, hoping the latest problem had been fixed, but he replied
later: ``Glenn, Unfortunately the driver problem has not been solved.
The plumbers have fixed the water leak. More work on the # 2 5085
transmitter will be required. George McClintock 12-20-2024`` -- but it
did stay on for entire WOR and a sesquiminute of music until
0431.7*.

Also confirmed Saturday December 21 at 1550 the 1530 on SW Radio,
Germany, 6160.001+, S9+5/10 into UTwente, ACI not too bad from 6165
East Turkistan.

Also confirmed Saturday December 21 at 1700 on WRN N America stream.

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` WBCQ chex Dec 21 at 0047: to NH SDR, 7490 is
weak and getting creamed by 7495 VOA KUWAIT to Afghanistan, S7/S9.
6160 -68 Hz = 6159.932 is VP S4/S5. 5130 & 3265 are OFF. So I switch
to Maryland SDR, for VERY different results, beyond the 7490 skip zone
and not much from JBA 7495: 7490 -76 Hz = 7489.924 achieves S9+15/20,
6160 -69 Hz = 6159.931 is JBA, 5130 off. BUT circa *0055, 5130 -24 Hz
= 5129.974 comes on with IS & IDs. 0100 starting AAAWWW but 5130- is
distorted, so I switch to 7490-. Opens with ``Merry Xmas`` so it`s new
as expected since they bothered to fire up 5130 for one hour a week.
Word interjected during WTO theme pause toward end is ``carbonated``.
A&A are having some cognac, but Allan doesn`t like champagne since
it`s carbonated. 0109 gives frequencies as 7490 & 5130, 0110 into
abrupt raucous music. Unusually some more tunes, apparently picked by
Angela, but Allan using phone to play them after fishing around; how
informal. 0121 says would like to run different serious music programs
on 3, 5 and 6 MHz but needs sponsors. 0129 says expects some National
``Socialist`` Public Radio programming about WBCQ and SW in 2025,
stemming from a 2-day visit Katie paid last spring. That would be
Katie Thornton, who also interviewed me a few months ago for a podcast
and probably also during `On the Media` from WNYC, which WRMI then
started carrying. 0140 operatic music and more tunes for Xmas. 0152
confirms date is 20 Dec. Reads a few email greetings. I also check the
7490 stream and find it silent, then cuts on. 0200 prayer. 0201.7 JIP
Hal Turner (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1539.93 approx., Dec 21 at 0305/0330, Spanish talk somewhat
separable from the 1540 stations direct, no doubt KGBC Galveston TX as
usual way off-frequency. Lots of adstrings. After 0347, I get better
reception in SAL mode via an Austin SDR - none in Houston - including
mentions of Houston and phone numbers with ACs 713 and 281 which fit.
Exact frequency readout is too unstable, not sure if station, SDR, or
QRM, but there is a considerable LAH. mwoffsets puts it on 1539.995
but it`s a lot more than 5 Hz low. Maybe that was an error for 1539.95
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Not a full bandscan for JBA TA carriers, but checking
some likelies, Dec 21 at 0253, I do detect them on 891, not 889; and
531 -- so Algeria looks likely for both; but also 1141 which is Cuba
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
