Glenn Hauser logs December 15-16, 2024
Tuesday, December 17 2024

Logs
** CANADA. 300 MCW kHz, Dec 16 at 0724, dash and YIV, 500 watts at
Island Lake, MB.
382 MCW kHz, Dec 16 at 0746, dash and YPL, 1000 watts at Pickle Lake,
ON (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 15755-15760-15765, Dec 16 at 2308, DRM noise at S9+10. Per
Aoki it`s CNR1 from Qiqihar 202 site vs SOH long hours from 22 to 15
UT. Only AM signal, not DRM as in Aoki, on 13m, Dec 16 at 2306, is on
21530, as from Dongfang, Hainan site. On the contrary, EiBi shows CNR1
on 21530 as DRM, and 15760 as not DRM. Anyhow, DRM makes for fine
jamming! Tnx a lot, Consortium (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 570, Dec 16 at 0604, choral NA, and no ID after, off? Most
likely XEBJB, Monterrey NL.

660, Dec 16 at 0605, choral NA, fades by 0607 finish. Most likely XEFZ
Monterrey NL.

739.98 approx., Dec 16 at 0608, LAH against KRMG 740.00, no doubt
XEQN, Torreón, Coahuila (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 17675, Dec 16 at 2354, JBA S5 signal of RNZP even into
Hawaii SDR. For at least the last week I have had little or no
reception of this direct in the 21-07 UT period, nor after 07 on
13755, which used to be VG, the SSOB. Has the trans-Pacific MUF
dropped drastically? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 95.1, Dec 16 around 1800 UT, KOKJ-LP remains at very
limited range, full quieting for only a few blox around downtown Enid,
otherwise losing out to KQCV/KICT. Xmasmx, long pause at hourtop
between cuts, very undermodulated, and NO ID whatsoever, still none
ever heard in random chex (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Dec 16 at 2300, token English from SNR, VG
S9+20/30 direct, previewing something about gravity waves. 2301.5 news
leads with something about bribery involving pandemic equipment. 2314
discussion of retrieving plastix from the sea and recycling it. 12030
is JBA carrier, no longer a suitable alternative to 9690 so they
better keep that running! Even weaker JBA carriers on 17715, 17755: at
least they are on the air for somewheres (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9610, Sun Dec 15 after 2130 into UTwente, mixture of two
stations, apparently China in Mongolian atop, the other presumably
VOT, but useless. So I have to try a sesquihour later for the
Letterbox, should 5960 succeed.

5960.003v, Sun Dec 15 at 2257 into UTwente, VG S9+25/40 but it`s not
the IS! Rather music presumably Turkish past 2300 hourtop, brief
announcement at 2301 and more music. They`re running the wrong program
feed! Something`s always erroneous at Emirler, or was this awry at
Ankara? 2304.7 abrupt cut to olds in English in progress as mis-spoken
by Efsun the axentuated. There is also the usual rhumble and CCCCCCI.
2316 she outros the olds. 2316.5 TRTVOTVorld.com promo, music. 2321,
``always-by-your-side`` promo, `Letterbox`, this time with a YL other
than Efsun. Says she started 15 years ago, and refers to some guy
announcer, and notes that there is no `DX Corner` now - indeed. Her
accent is OK, but speaks too rapidly and with imperfect reception,
it`s again hard to copy names or even locations of those called:

1) some guy, Evanchik? with a 28 Nov report, mentions program about
Turkish women heroes - like on a previous L`box; and a 55-year-old
song. 2) Siddartha ---, 11-16 Nov reports. Asks about popular TV
series in Turkey? they are about love, crime, religion, medical; and
some recently got a Golden Butterfly award in Istanbul. 3) Anatoly
Klepov, Russia, perennial, all he wants is a December QSL: is there a
different one each month? His reception was 45444. 2327 pause for one
of her favorite songs. 2332, 4) India, sent recording to ID language?
Yes, it`s Turkish. 5) Hungary, for QSL. 6) Bangladesh, 33333 report
for 9660.

Hostess remarx: in 2025 some changes in TRT departments. TRT Global
will be umbrella over all foreign language services, not yet known how
this will affect VOT SW. 7) David Strong?, where? for QSL. 8) W.
Bengal, plugs World AIDS Day - like on a previous L`box. She adds that
Ricky Hein called wondering if they got his letter? Not yet. 2337.7
closing song inside L`box. 2343.5 L`box outro, 2344 music, 2348
``a-b-y-s-`` again. 2349 music. 2353 s/off as if 1330 on 13635, awry.
2354 six notes of IS before chop* uncovering Chinese, no finesse but
no German (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. NO signals from VOT English direct, Dec 16 at 2300 on
5960, some JBA carrier with Doppler flutter on 9610. At 2332 check
into UTwente, only Chinese on 5960, Mongolian? on 9610. Something`s
extremely erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [and non]. ``Morse Code: Ready to Transmit --- Glenn, This is
also available on the BBC Sounds website, also their Documentary
Podcast. Good piece - the team from Belarus was the favorite, but the
Romanians had the World Champion on their team. All of the East
European teams sounded delighted to be in North Africa. Regards, Chuck
Albertson, Seattle, Wash.`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A. Digging deep for ND beacons, JBA carriers, too many choices
in USA: Dec 16 at 0600 UT on 335 kHz; Dec 16 at 0720 on 272 kHz;

280 kHz, Dec 16 at 0721, JJBBA carrier but only one listed in DXIC:
GYZ, 50 watts at Guernsey WY.

338 MCW kHz, Dec 16 at 0726, RYN, 400 watts at Tucson AZ.

379 MCW kHz, Dec 16 at 0745, RU, which is really RUE miskeyed,
Russellville AR. Copied best tuned to 379.6 USB. See also CANADA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2273 monitoring: Also confirmed
Sunday December 15 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.999- kHz,
S9+5 into UTwente across Europe.

Also confirmed Sunday December 15 at 2256 the 2230 on SW Radio,
Germany, 3975.002, S7/S9 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Sunday December 15 at 2330 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 into
Maryland SDR, but S9+10/18 into south Texas SDR - we were expecting to
be back on originally scheduled 7570 which reactivated early UT
Saturday, but it`s off again. Meanwhile an explosion and power failure
at Okeechobee intervened about 0415 UT Sunday, so all frequencies were
off for a while. At 2310 I found not only 7570 off but also 5950, 9955
- just pulse jamming, and 15770. Apparently also on: weak 7730, good
9395, and 5850.

Also confirmed UT Monday December 16 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+10/20
into S TX SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday December 16 at 0410 about 8 minutes into so
started circa 0402 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 -67 Hz = 6159.933, S6/S7
into Maryland SDR; first check at 0400 direct was JBA carrier: this
WBCQ continues to be much weaker than formerly.

``2030 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975: S9+10/20 db on
Weston-Super-Mare, UK
http://websdr.uk:8076/?f=3975.00amz7
Suprisingly also fine on UTwente. S9 + 20 db. With MUF 3.1 the Winsen
tx normally did not reach Twente because of about 200 km distance.
Thanks Glenn, nice show. 73 Lesley`` Illingworth, Bremerhaven

Also confirmed Monday December 16 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.002-, S9+10/15 into UTwente. Next:

** U S A. More from WRMI on FB - why rely on that descredited
platform?
``WRMI Radio Miami International -- 1849 UTC Sunday December 15: A
Florida Power and Light investigator finally showed up here, 13 hours
after the power went out. There is a definite transformer blown, and
they need to get a specialist repair team here to fix it. However,
there is a very large colony of bees inside the small building where
the transformer is located, so they have to get the FPL bee team to
get rid of the bees before they can work on the transformer.
Realistically, they say it's likely to be tomorrow (Monday) before
they can possibly repair the transformer. This means that transmitters
#3-10 will be off the air until at least late Monday. We have put
transmitter 2 (7730 kHz) on the air at low power with a generator.
Transmitters 11-14 have power and will be on as of 2200 UTC today. We
may switch frequencies on some of them. Stand by for updates.``

- I hope ``get rid of`` doesn`t mean exterminating the poor bees.
More:

``Per FB: "0115 UTC Monday December 16: A Florida Power and Light
truck is here now, and another is on its way. Together, the crew
thinks they can repair the electrical transformer. But we don't know
how long it will take. Meantime, a professional bee removal company
has eliminated that problem. At the moment, we have 7730, 9395, 5850,
7780 and 5950 kHz on the air, plus our Internet stream which airs the
9955 kHz programming. Hopefully the others will be back soon. Thanks
for your patience"

While this all may be true, some frequencies, such as 5950, may be at
low power. I can't seem to get 5950 anywhere over the Rockies  - Tony
Pavick, Hope BC Canada``

Chex for which WRMI frequencies are on or off: Dec 16 at 0535: ON:
ONLY 7730 with TOMBS // 5890 WWCR. All these are OFF: 5010, 5800,
5850, 5950, 7570, 7780, 9395, 9455, 9955, 15770.

Dec 16 at 0713, ON: only 9955, 9395, 7780; 7730 deadair or JBM, 5850.

Dec 16 at 1541: ON: only 9395 with TOMBS. All others OFF except a VP
signal on 17790, probably RRI Romanian overlap at 15-16. Still only
9395 at 1613 check into Maryland SDR.

Dec 16 at 2309: 9395 unusually is OFF. Most of the rest are on except
5010, 9455: 15770 TOMBS, 9955 algo undermodulated, 7780 & 7730 JBA,
7570 VG S9+20 RAE in Portuguese, 5950 TOMBS S9+30, 5850 French
S9+10/20, 5800 TOMBS S9+10/20, 5050 music S9+10/20.

Updates on disgraced FB: ``WRMI Radio Miami International 0800 UTC
Monday December 16: A crew of four Florida Power & Light electricians
was here at WRMI all night long, fixing one of the two transformers
that supply the power for transmitters 1-10. As of about an hour ago,
we are back on our regular schedule again. There is still a bad
transformer that needs to be replaced, probably later today, but we
can operate with one of the two transformers until the other comes
online. We may have to shut down briefly when the other transformer is
installed, but we are basically back on schedule again until further
notice. Thanks to FPL cable splitter James and his crew for their hard
work overnight, and thanks to our listeners for bearing with us during
this difficult circumstance`` - and later:

``1730 UTC Monday December 16: Well folks, we are off the air again
(except for 7730 kHz, which is on a generator), as Florida Power and
Light has delivered a new transformer for us and they are installing
it now. As soon as it is installed, we should have everything back on
the air in the coming hours`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5890, Dec 16 at 0530, this WWCR is much like 5935,
surrounded by gunk = varying squealy spur peaks at least plus/minus 10
kHz.

5980, Dec 16 at 0531, leapfrog mixing product of WWCR 5890 over 5935
another 45 kHz higher: weak audio from both audible as usual. This can
mystify loggers as despite being a real transmitted signal, does not
appear in Aoki, EiBi, nor HFCC! Theoretically, a reverse leap could
land on 5845, and in the absence of 5850 WRMI, I do find some carrier
there but no recognizable modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1650, is KSVE El Paso TX on the air at all, since the
overnight tone is no longer heard? I`m not hearing their Spanish
sports format earlier. I never got a definite answer from someone in
El Paso, so I asked Rick Barton, near Phoenix to check it out. His
reply Dec 15 at 2338 UT:

``Re: Is 1650 KSVE on? Glenn. I'm not hearing them at all. They used
to be in and out, along with a few other regulars, with KBJD being
dominant on the channel. To be fair, I haven't heard KFOX for a few
days either. I'll keep listening and will report if I do hear them.
For now, I'd say they're off. 73 - Rick``

And at 0408 UT Dec 16: ``Stop the presses.....! Glenn, Getting Spanish
lang. sports right now on 1650. Will be sending one of my updates in
the morning. Hoping for an ID here at the moment. 73 Rick`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 21612 USB, Dec 16 at 2306, JBA 2-way maybe English,
INTRUDERS, why not? Hardly any broadcasters bother with 13m. Only bc
signal was 21530, no doubt CNR1 jammer vs SOH as in Aoki, except NOT
in DRM as shown there, from Dongfang, Hainan site (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
