Glenn Hauser logs August 25-26, 2024

Hauser
** CUBA. 9790, Aug 26 at 0406, CRI relay S9 but only a trace of
modulation. Cantonese scheduled, supposedly an ``endangered`` language
per Dore Stein on `Tangents`, KALW San Francisco, where it`s more
Chinese than ``Mandarin``. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, Aug 25 at 2213 quick check, R. Cairo in English,
S9+20/25 into UTwente, and very loud but extremely distorted, so back
to TURKEY for me, tnx this tip from Andy Reid, Ont., on the WOR iog:
``Egypt half intelligible tonight -- R. Cairo is somewhat intelligible
tonight 9440 22 UT``. Well, we had not even run across a signal in
months, altho hardly motivated to keep seeking it. Something`s always
amiss at Abis (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 11824.96 approx., Aug 26 at 0415, good S9/+10 in
English, African Pathways on Madagascar World Voice, Mahajanga (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7475, Aug 26 at 0408, JBA S5 signal, undermodulated,
presumably pirate Station YHWH, which is sporadically active. EiBi
shows irr. possible span 0100/0500. Others often report him but none
tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1270, Aug 26 at 0638 UT, VG Spanish music, loud
& clear, better than some 50/50 kW ``clears`` such as WOAI 1200.
Figured it must be KFLC Benbrook [The Metroplex] TX, U4 50/5 kW, but
now listed as TUDN sports -- maybe not in the nightmiddle? Night
pattern is E/W, no good for us, nor daypat major lobe east.

Then non-ID as ``107.9 FM y 1270 AM`` so it`s really KRXO, Claremore
[Tulsa] OK, listed as SS:CHR, address in OKC, 5/1 kW direxional SW but
not totally nulled thisaway. Besides ownership, KRXO[AM] has no
relation to programming on the original KRXO[FM] 107.7 OKC, silly
sportstalk in English. WTFDA FMDB shows 107.9 is K300CY Broken Arrow
[Tulsa], 150 watts, CHR, Lang NOT as Spanish, yet slogan Ritmo 107.9.
Another tail wagging an AM dog. A confusing situation; why apply the
same calls to AM in Tulsa, and not // FM in OKC?

But then I hear ``St. Joe`s classic rock, KY-102``, huh? That`s KYSJ,
St. Joseph MO, dog wagged by its tail, K273BF, 102.5 per NRC AM Log
and supposed to be only 36 watts at night! AOR format. Don`t think I
had ever heard it, U1 1000/36. Unless it changed to Spanish? Website
shows still English: https://www.ky102.net/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935.4 approx., Aug 26 at 0418 weak S4/S5 rapid
chirping direct as heard recently from Riyadh`s Yemen service. Over to
UTwente at 0422 where it`s S9, and will not synchronize at any point.
Rapid chirping maybe 4X per second but irregular, in USB tuning, but
in AM, only hear clix above much weaker program modulation. Magnifying
waterfall, we see spikes upward only from 11935.5 past 11937; still so
at 0502. This transmitter keeps finding new ways to disrupt itself -
unless it`s external jamming, unseems. Next check 1918 Aug 26 into
UTwente - clear, no chirp, S9+15/25 on 11935.403 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004+, Sun Aug 25 at 2200, VOT English not off the
air, S9+50/55 into UTwente, s/on by Efsun the accentuated for the 1230
on 17620, who also makes the olds hard to follow, but one item is
about a TRT TV crew risking making a documentary about how Israeli
``settlers`` are pushing Palestinians out of their West Bank. 2220
`Letterbox` opening, but then some irrelevant music until 2224 when
Halil greets us. Says this has been the hottest week in Ankara, 35-39
degrees. It will soon cool down but in the south of Turkey it stays
hot until end of October. Expects winter to be damn cold, freezing.
First letter is handwritten, 3 pages, can`t make out what country is
from nor name, Marleen Testumi??? man or woman? Says started SWLing in
1968, now resumes listening on internet. Australia: Paul Simmons, SA,
VK5PAS. USA: Daniel Burns, Orange VA, 3pp by post. Wants to know name
of IS song. Try Shazaam, or he will find out. Austria: 4pp from Harald
Süss with two dots, wants QSL again. India, someone from an SWL club
with 270 members, wants QSL ASAP, mailed 14 June, just received. USA:
Miss Marlene Sherburne? the same as above? Auburn/Boston MA, resuming
SWL, congrats host and he is very impressed. India: Jayanta
Chakroborty, New Delhi, a regular, says could not hear 11 August 03
broadcast, due to blackout? [no, both frequencies not on air as I
monitored same UT date]. Malaysia: Peter Ng who must be Chinese; Kuala
Lumpur is Halil`s ex-town, greets in Malay and says his wife is
Chinese Malaysian, having trouble, delays getting her expired visa
renewed. Halil talks about how Singaporeans cross to Johore Bahru for
cheaper meals and gas. His report was for 5/31 and sent 6/3, long
delay in arriving. ``Goodbye, my lovely, lovely dear listeners; may
God protect all of us, amen``; 2249 song before 2252 `L`box` outro.
2252.5 headlines by Efsun and 2254.7 right into s/off which I am sure
she was reading `live` at 1324.7, for the 1230 broadcast, something
always awry at Ankara, and IS fragment until 2255.8*. BTW, I have been
saying ``IS once`` meaning only the first few notes before it goes
into variations, constituting the complete IS tune often unattained
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Aug 26 at 0332, checking whether this WTWW be on air,
yes, but chop off air midword a few sex later about 0332.6*! (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5010 & 9955, Aug 26 at 0404, both these WRMIs are OFF, as
happens only on UT Mondays, othernights still past 0700, perhaps
all-night, totally contrary to own websked (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 891 kHz, Aug 26 at 0630, JBA carrier hetting 890 WLS;
cannot find a match on 889, so presumably ALGERIA. No other TA
carriers checking a few prime spots such as 531, 711, 774 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report despatched at 1924 UT August 26
