Glenn Hauser logs July 30-31, 2024
Thursday, August 01 2024

Logs
** CUBA. 5025, July 31 at 0640, NO signal from R. Rebelde; when there
is a signal, it`s often with no modulation. Something`s always wrong
at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, July 31 at 2210, RHC S9+10/20 direct but JBM,
supposedly Portuguese. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27224.53 AM, July 31 at 1448, Enid CB pirate after
missing a few days, S9+5 and JBM // 105.5 K288FX `K-Love``. Also
27184.83 at S8. Originally from KYLV 88.9 OKC. 2205 another check on
different receiver: 27184.87 // 105.5, and 27224.6 with heavy skip QRM
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PHILIPPINES [and non]. 12080, July 31 at 1456, S9+10/15 in Korean,
VOA via Tinang at 12-15, is the SSOB with very little else from
abroad. In fact most of the bands are near-dead except for WWCR
blasting 9980, less so 13845, and not enhanced 15825. All WRMIs are
very weak to JBA, also 9330 WBCQ. 12080 is on the 21-degree antenna
toward Korea, and a defacto N American service far beyond, crossing
near Barrow and Detroit, and we are about 10 degrees away from that
bearing.

It seems that almost every 3-hourly SWPC report says
``Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level occurred`` and
``Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level are expected``

and https://spaceweather.com/ via Mike Terry: ``Multiple CMEs are
heading for Earth. They could spark G2-class geomagnetic storms when
they arrive on July 31st and August 1st. During such storms, naked-eye
auroras may be seen in northern-tier US states and central Europe.``

Keep an eye on this auroral oval display:

https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/images/animations/ovation/north/latest.jpg
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed July 31 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
S9/+10/20 direct, and the other 3 detectable, preview about a Mérida
festival which started in 1933y to interview someone named Gil. And
Spanish being #2 favorite foreign language in British secondary
schools [#1 French?]. 2201 news starts with counter-lawsuits involving
PM Sánchez; Catalunya to collect taxes instead of central government
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004-, July 31 at 2158, VOT English not off the air,
IS and ID, S9/+10 direct but JBA vs noise level. 2221 into UTwente
when measured, S9+20/40 about relations with Qatar including a Turkish
military base there. 2224 outro as `The Middle East & Turkey`,
multi-lingual ID filler reel, music. 2231 Ms Badax in a segment I`m
not sure of, maybe That`s Why? Something hardly understandable about
calculators and our world, music. 2241 ``always-by-your-side`` promo.
2242 `Sports Panorama` about Olympic opening ceremony to how Turkish
athletes are doing well. 2250 music. 2252 s/off ignoring SW -
something`s awry at Ankara. 2253 IS. 2256 restart IS with IDs in
German to 2257*. Something`s erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2253 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
July 30 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S7/9+5 into Peoria SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday July 30 at 2352 the 2330 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 3975.001, S9/+10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday July 31 at 1930.5 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
6160.000- at S9+5 and 3975.002+ at S9+15/20 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday July 31 at 2100 on WBCQ 7489.93, S8/9+5 into
NH SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

As a non-commercial service, thanks this week for financial support
via PayPal in US funds but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com
from William Fenech: ``Glenn - thanks for all your efforts to promote
radio, especially Shortwave radio... 73 and Good DX, William NJ6O``

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 93.5, July 31 at 1717 UT on caradio, ``this is Thunder
Country`` and country music. Only my usual fringer, KKDT Burdett KS;
WTFDA db shows ``93.5 Thunder`` instead as slogan. Apparently a recent
change from ``My Country 93.5`` the last time I noticed it. Unclear
how Thunder is distinctive to Hays KS area; 46 other USA stations
slogan that word including some elsewhere in Kansas. Of course, I was
bandscanning for Es DX -- MUF way up east of here but paths not yet
reaching this far. Slogan heard again at 2305 during another fruitless
Es pursuit. This signal faded from strong to nothing in seconds vs
CCI, as if were ionospheric, but it`s the turbulent 100+degree
troposphere. Also here any weaker signals are subject to surges via
Vance airplane scatter constantly traversing us, and we suspect also
raining jet fuel exhaust exacerbating oily dust at ground level (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0003 UT August 1
