Hauser
** ALGERIA. 17599.998, May 15 at 1738, Ifrikya FM, S8/9+5 of music we
think of as `Horn of Africa` but this is not from the Horn; have also
heard the style well inland into Sudan/South e.g. I shall keep an ear
on it via UTwente for some English to come: not at 1803, just music
still at 1808; French ID at 1814; 1820-1825 brief floating English
segment: about Nigeria (not Algeria) economic problems, naira, IMF,
etc. YL has a good accent but speaks too fast making her hard to
follow; also some overmodulation distortion and annoying continuous
music mixing. I suspect that some ESL speakers try to impress us with
their fluency by speaking as rapidly as possible rather than aiming
for clarity. Gives her name and ``signing off`` already at 1824; then
ID in English, ``from north to south, east to west`` with FM
frequencies 105.6, 98.?, 93.2, 89.9 in different cities including
Oran, 1825 back to music and French talk segments past 1854 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11934.998, May 15 at 1737, Riyadh with Qur`an,
S9+5/15 into UTwente but noisy and undermodulated; rather than
horrible buzzroar at the moment. Presumably still Rep. of Yemen relay;
if you listen long enough, you should hear an Arabic ID mentioning
Yemen (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SLOVAKIA [non]. Re far-right PM Fico, shot in an assassination
attempt, I mentioned previously in connexion to trying to take over
RTVS and consequently RSI: I pronounced his name incorrectly as
`Fee-koh`, but the -c- is really pronounced as -ts- unless there be a
cap on it, -ch-.
https://mylanguages.org/slovak_alphabet.php
In the news, BBC? I heard the ts, but PBS Newshour was still saying
Fiko. We should know better if we paid attention to RSI via WRMI,
where they probably pronounce him correctly despite antipathy. English
from the source: 1900 Internet only; 2200 on 5850; 0030 on 15770,
7730?, 5850; 0130 Tue-Sat on 5800; 0300 on 7730, 7780; daily u.o.s.
per skedgrid, not all confirmed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. REE chex before 18 UT May 15 find it nowhere into UTwente,
since the WHem channels do not start earlier on weekdays and the two
EHem channels are still OFF. At 1805, 17715 for SAm is on, VG
S9+30/40, as is 17855 for NAm, S9+20 while 15520 & 15390 are silent.
Eds. note: do not change ``NAm`` to Nam -- it means North America with
a capital A, not Nam as in Viet!

17855, Wed May 15 at 2200, token English from SNR, sufficient but
fadey direct into DX-390 portable: no news, but part 2 of Alison
Hughes` old report about US/Spain relations during the Cold War/Franco
era, including a nuclear accident (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 15 at 2200, VOT English JBA direct due to
noise level. S9+35 via UTwente from 2224 when measured, Badax
concluding algo, music. 2228 `The Middle East and Turkey`, about
relations with Algeria, which Turkey/TOE once ruled. Guess what: Libya
may be considered ME, but Algeria would really be pushing it.
Something`s always awry at Ankara. Series resumes next week, same
time, same day? 2233 music. 2242 `Sports Panorama`. 2249 music. 2253
no headlines, s/off as if just the 1230 on 17620. 2253.7 IS until
chopoff at 2255.5* in time to avoid extra German (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
May 14 at 2330 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S8/9+5 into
UTwente.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 14 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S6/S9 into Peoria
IL SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 15 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
6160.000, S9+15 into UTwente, and switching to 3975.001, weaker S9+10
and a couple words behind: is that an artifact, really not
synchronized if heard direct on two identical receivers at once?

Also confirmed Wednesday May 15 at 2128 the 2100 on WBCQ 7489.928, VG
S8/S9 into NH SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.
