** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Apr 24 at 2209, I can almost imagine a JJBBA RC direct from LRA36. This is Wednesday but am checking now since there was one report of it last Wed Apr 17 by Roberto Pavanello, in the playdx iog which keeps running some years after the passing of its founder Dario Monferini: ``[playdx2019] TIPS da Vercelli 15476USB 17/4 20.40 R. Nac. Arcangel S. Gabriel - Base Esperanca SS talk suff`` -- I meant to check earlier when it might have been on again. No current/recent info from station about its scheduling. It used to have a Wed airing as well as Sat (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15140 & 11760, Apr 24 at 1908, NO signals direct from RHC English hour. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side: ``Shortages Cuba: the old relationship between rationing and totalitarianism At the root of rationing in Cuba is the system's productive incapacity and its control over its people. Dimas Castellanos, La Habana, 22 Abr 2024 - 21:22 CEST On Monday, April 15, Cuba's Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a message asking the faithful to pray for "mothers who are struggling to feed their children," and stated that "our dear homeland is going through very difficult times," recognizing that "Cubans are suffering, crying, and lack the essentials." The issue brings us back to the "supply" book, a government euphemism for its rationing of basic groceries. Since only what is produced can be distributed, since the implementation of rationing the quantity and quality of the items regulated have been dwindling, and delivery times have increased. When rationing was first implemented, Cubans received beef, chicken, oil, butter, condensed milk, toilet paper, coffee, rice, grain, and industrial products, thanks to Soviet subsidies. Currently the monthly distribution consists of seven pounds of rice (3.2 kilograms), four pounds of sugar, half a liter of soybean oil, a pack of 115 grams of "mixed coffee" (coffee with peas does not qualify as coffee, according to the International Coffee Organization, when the mixture is more than 5%; in Cuba it is 50%), five eggs, ten ounces of beans, and one pound of chicken...`` https://diariodecuba.com/economia/1713813730_54318.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935v, Apr 24 at 1709, buzzroar S9+15 into UTwente. Synchlox as I toggle back and forth: 11935.320.27; at 1710, 11935.321.03; at 1711, 11935.319.78. Quick recheck at 1926: still going. Not a hint of any program audio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U K [non]. 11645, Apr 24 at 2256, open carrier S9+10/15 into Jakarta SDR; 2259 tone test; 2259.5 BBCWS promo, ID, 2300 timesignal about 3 sex late as received, plug next show about health after news, 2301 news. This is a new frequency via USAGM Tinang, PHILIPPINES, effective today, ex-11825; 250 kW aimed 200 degrees for Indonesia centred about Jakarta. Not clear what was the problem with 11825. Listings showed no co-channel anywhere this hour; only possible adjacent QRM would be 11830 CRI Spanish via East Turkistan, but which should not be a problem in target. 11645 is the *only* scheduled BBC English channel this hour in its ever-shrinking SW output. I believe some N Americans had been listening to it, perhaps via longpath. I check it direct after 2306 and find it JBA S3/S4; 11825 vacant; 11830 presumed CRI JBA S4/S5. 9440 remains at 22-23 on same parameters. Checking it direct at 2213, when it is also the *only* BBC channel, it`s JBA slightly offset + and bothered by a carrier on 9441.00; have to tune LSB for any chance to listen. Het might be jamming, tnx to the ChiCom where they have allowed far too many megadenizens to understand English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Apr 24 at 2200, token triweekly English from SNR, VG direct and almost as good backward on 15520, starts talking about World Book Day, celebrated in Spain by public readings of Don Quijote de la Mancha, not only in Castilian but translations. One lasted 48 hours. Says Spanish is #2 language in world, 500 megaspeakers native plus 600M as second language. After news, 2210 Justin Coe voice with contact info including complicated postal address. 2212 feature interviews curator of a photography exhibition until 20 July by the Banco de España, about history of Spain, not just the bank. Naturally, no visual element to this radio report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, Apr 24 at 2200, no signal direct from VOT English for second night in a row; still nothing later in hour into UTwente, nor a possible 9875 overrun. Something`s very erroneous at Emirler. Need to check whether others be absent such as 0300 on 7275, 6165 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non].
