Hauser
** ARGENTINA. 28490 USB, March 15 at 2210, LU8YE calling CQDX, CQ10.
VG signal. QRZ.com: ``LU8YE Argentina flag Argentina, RADIO CLUB DE
LOS ANDES, LOS PEHUENES 1 Y LAS RETAMAS, SAN MARTIN DE LOS ANDES -
PATAGONIA, NQ 8370, Argentina --- The Radio Club de los Andes, located
in the city of San Martin de los Andes, besides the Lanin National
Park with superb natural surroundings, offers big lakes and clear
water rivers. It is a beautiful tourist place, we invite you to visit
(video of our city).`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA. 28450 USB, March 15 at 2207, HJ3ESF, ``Munir, north of
Bogotá`` working a VE1 in NS, calling CQDX, VG signal. QRZ.com:
``HJ3ESF Colombia flag Colombia, Munir Saab, 20976 Sheridan St,
Fortlauderdale, FL 33332, USA`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, March 15 at 1635, JBA carrier into Missouri
remote, presumed pirate Hikari FM in Sonora or Arizona. So weak that
has trouble synchlocking onto it, but audible in USB if tuned to
11514.5. Also noticed direct at various times not always logged. Is
anyone getting enough signal for modulation monitoring? (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Mar 15 at 2300, token English from SNR, VG
S9+30/40 into Maryland SDR. 2308 feature after news is pushback
against trend to eliminate AM radios, let alone SW, from cars, several
interviews. 2323 about celebrations in Spain for St. Patrick`s Day,
with some nice Irish music bits (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, March 15 at 2300, NO signal from VOT into
UTwente, and on 9610 only CNR Mongolian. At *2310.6, Xinjiang RTV
chops on 5960.000 mid-word in Chinese, its usual start time, breaking
squelch. No VOT for rest of hour. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler, std denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28217.7 CW, March 15 at 2204, EEEEE DE WA1LAD/B --- Nothing
about a beacon on his qrz.com page: ``WA1LAD USA flag USA, GILBERT D
"Gil" WOODSIDE, III, 285 3rd Ave, Warwick, RI 02888, USA``

I keep trying WI5V website first for beacon lookups, but has been
inaccessible for at least two weeks. Anyone know what happened, or is
there some other new site being updated? At QRZ.com nothing new, in
fact his old announcement about taking over from WJ5O:

``WI5V USA flag USA, DENNIS C STICE, 5120 SW 125TH PL, OKLAHOMA CITY,
OK 73173 --- On January 20, 2018 I will assume the duties as the IARU
Region 2 Beacon Coordinator, as Bill, WJ5O, will be resigning from
this role. Bill has faithfully administered the duties and has been a
tremendous asset to so many Beaconers during his 10 year stint as IARU
Region 2 Beacon Coordinator. Now that I am retired from teaching grad
school and rehabilitation counseling, I will now have more time to
devote to my new role. The Official Beacon List can be seen here on my
website: wi5v.net `` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17680, Fri March 15 at 1657 tune-in via UTwente, open
carrier S9+10/20, 1700 R. Martí ID, nothing about VOA, and right into
program `La Libertad es una Librería` discussing Ukrainian poetry in
translation. That means bookshop, not library.

Before 1700 still no signal on 17865. Peter Hanson checked IBB
monitoring in ``Kiev`` showing that 17865 at 13-17 is for Sat & Sun,
17680 at 17-21 for M-F only. So on March 16 we should find it earlier
on the other frequency instead. Also, on March 15, Richard Langley
reported 17680 had run past 2100 on some unspecified date:

``An update: Listened to all of my 10-minute clips. There seemed to be
a VOA editorial near the top of the hour each hour (except the first
hour). At about 2104 UT, there was a version of the Ukrainian
patriotic song "Ой у лузі червона калина, romanized: Oi u luzi
chervona kalyna" (something like: "Oh, there is a red viburnum in the
meadow") in SPANISH! Most of us have heard various versions of this
song since the start of the war but perhaps not in Spanish. When
checking on the spelling of the song, I came across this version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkMKYPWWmSY
Very nice, particularly the portions with brass instruments. The hour
continued past 2106 when my recording ended. So not signing off at
2100 according to the supposed schedule. Will extend my recordings to
see if there is a consistent s/off time. Slava Ukraini! -- Richard
Langley``

Volodya Salmaniw, BC, replied, ``Thanks for sharing, Richard! The song
was banned in the Soviet Union. As I recall, it was written during the
first world war but became popular with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army
during and after World War 2. As many Ukrainian songs are, it's
cryptic, describing how Ukraine, although broken, will arise again. We
learned it as children growing up in the diaspora. Always gives me a
lump in my throat. Walt``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` WBCQ chex into Maryland SDR, Fri Mar 15 at
2352: 3265 off. 5130.190 `ATATT`. 6159.930 Bro. Scare attempting to
sing. 7489.947 FKB preaching. 9330.000 WLCR Portuguese. 0000 UT Sat
Mar 16, 7490 & 5130 with `AAAWWW` - first topic is living in a Fla
bird sanxuary, such as vultures: so apparently a new show. If we hear
a birdic beginning again, we`ll know it`s a repeat. 0041 ``communist
Democrats``. Bye (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9350, March 15 at 2218, WWCR gospel huxter, always huge
signal here, S9+20/30, but now with squeal audible in AM mode, more so
at 9350-LSB and 9350-USB. Something`s notright at Nashville (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
