Glenn Hauser logs February 7+, 2024

Hauser
** BRAZIL [and non]. 4885, Feb 7 at 0423, no signal direct from Pará,
definitely off as other S Americans are at usual levels on 4810, 4940,
4985 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 6754 USB, Feb 7 at 0048, CHR, Trenton Military is not on
wrong frequency like 6751, checked into Missouri SDR. More about 15031
USB instead of 15034 earlier on Feb 6:

``[WOR] Trenton VOLMET on 15031 USB today --- I often will tune in
Trenton merely as an indicator of how propagation is at my location.
After all, with all of the "no report received" repetition in the
spoken information, it's not a great font of information. Today,
however, something a bit odd: Instead of being at 15034 USB as usual,
it's migrated down to 15031 USB, where I heard it at 2109 UTC. Good
reception on that frequency, though there seemed to be a loud carrier
hum/tone accompanying the information. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake
Stevens, Washington``

``RE: Trenton a waste --- Hi Glenn, I am suspecting they are going
through "growing pains". MACS, along with all other Canadian Armed
Forces (CAF) strategic HF stations, are scheduled for technology
upgrades.

What I have recently noticed on a few occasions is the VOLMET audio
feed being transmitted on 11232.0 kHz USB for a short duration. I am
suspecting that there are growing pains with the switch matrix. There
are several switch matrices at MACS which routes control/data, audio
etc --- from the receivers and transmitters to the various sites and
antennae.

What I have also noticed are regular system checks, "This is Trenton
Military testing 1 2 3 3 2 1 test out". This leads one to believe that
there is a lack of confidence in the way the sites are operating, thus
necessitating the system confidence check.

I have also noticed within the last few weeks that HFGCS is going
through some pain as well. Lots of "no response" to radio checks and
check-ins. There also appears to be some new digital audio links which
I have now heard fail on several occasions, including this past
weekend, rendering the system from that site completely unserviceable.
There is something to be said about the old fashion analogue
technology. Richard`` Lacroix, Canada

15034 USB, Feb 7 at 1619, CHR is back on proper frequency with
no-report-receiveds. Also, from Richard Lacroix at 1420: ``Back on
frequency as of 07 Feb 2024 with NRRs. No updates on the time zone and
NRR issues. Richard``

And at 2044 UT 07 Feb: ``Hi Glenn, I had a good chat with the folks at
MACS today and it looks like we have now worked out all of the bugs
and VOLMETs are once again functioning. Richard``

6754 USB, Feb 7 at 0028, good into Maryland SDR, numerous reports have
been received!! Aviation weather but not terminal forecasts: NRR
Victoria, Comox, Vancouver, Abbotsford. 0030 ID, time 0030 zulu!
Aviation weather for Zagreb, etc., other Europeans NRR. Next repeat
does get Zagreb. In the best of times, there would be at least some
NRRs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Feb 7 at 0425, no signal from R. Rebelde, the
unreliable. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Feb 7 at 1623, S6/S8 of dead air in Spanish except for
squeal; and 15140 still missing. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 6190-6195-6200, Feb 7 at 0745, S9+30/35 of DRM noise, very
likely TDF test, ex 7295-7300-7305 where no longer heard. As expected,
missing from Aoki, EiBi, HFCC; but drmrx shows 6195 at 08-09, reported
2024/01-02, and now also shows 7300 at 0730-0800 as reported
2024/02/06; both irregular, ?unknown targets, powers and azimuths
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6930 AM, Feb 7 at 0427 music JBA at S8 about equal
to noise level. Pirate this hour only with more unID logs:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,125209.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 7 at 2306, token English from SNR, VG S9+30/40
sufficient to overcome constant line noise level of only S9+20, first
feature after news is about Juan Marinet, this year`s Goya Award
winner for 80 years in the cinema industry. 2317 contact info voiced
by the retired Justin Coe. 2318 other feature about studies of lunar
dust which is apparently harmful altho astronauts surely weren`t
inhaling it inside their spacesuits. In 1972, Harrison Schmidt
complained of ``Lunar hayfever``. This interviewee hard to understand
due to accent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Feb 7 at 2310, VOT English, no signal
direct vs S9+30 constant line noise level; nor at 2330 into Maryland
SDR nor even UTwente, rather good signal in Chinese from XJRTV, EAST
TURKISTAN, all by itself. So is VOT overrunning on 9610 instead? No,
UTwente gets a JBA signal there presumably Beijing as scheduled.
Something`s erroneous at Emirler.

Hold it: by 2351 recheck of 5960.005, now VOT is on, just in time for
the multi-lingual ID filler reel, with more 6CI than usual; 2353 s/off
of 1330 only broadcast, S9+30 into UTwente; 2354 IS; 2356 restart IS
with German IDs. 2400 still going, s/on German. 2420 distorted music;
2423, ``with-you-every-hour`` German version. 2424 commentary about
relations with Egypt. 2435 same familiar themesongs as for features in
English. A few sex before 2442* chops off air uncovering, fellow
genocidal ChiCom (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2228 monitoring: ``From: Richard
