** CANADA. 28175 MCW, Feb 4 at 2150, continuous carrier stands out. Between long pauses, ID as DE VE3TEN. Missing from WI5V list, but in this list as of today! https://listof10mbeacon.blogspot.com/2023/06/worldwide-list-of-10-meter-beacon.html ``28175 VE3TEN - Ottawa ON CAN FN25dj (04 Feb 2024) Note: de ID + grid + 75" carrier FSK - Pwr 10w`` Lots of activity on the 10m beacon band. I wish there were a way to filter out the `domestic` ones and go to foreign ones without listening to each and every ID (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9440v, Feb 4 at 2148, no signal direct from R. Cairo in English. Something`s always amiss at Abis. 9440v, Feb 5 at 2150, no signal into UTwente. Something`s egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN. 28430 USB, Feb 5 at 2318, CQDX from 7L4LKK, JBA and took numerous passes to copy fonetik call. Where in the world is that? Then working a VA7. QRZ.com: ``7L4LKK Japan flag Japan, MICHIO HASEGAWA, 3-95-2 Tomae Mito-city, Ibaraki 311, Japan. My callsign: I was born in 1960 and started amateur radio in 1977 when I was a high school student. My first callsign was JH7XZU. About 30 years ago, I moved to JA1 area from JA7 area. However, in those days, we run out of J letter prefix in JA1 area. That is why I was assigned a new type of prefix 7L4 instead of J letter prefix such as JA1, JH1, JR1. Therefore my callsign is not a special callsign nor an event callsign.`` Many photos of equipment, QSL design, scenery: https://www.qrz.com/db/7L4LKK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Feb 5 at 2308, token English from SNR, feature interview about organ donation and transplanting. Autonotch does nothing. To get rid of it, bandwidth must be narrowed below 3 kHz which leaves very lofi audio. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. `Weekly Analysis` is just ending; 0413 song; 0417 ``always-by-your-side`` promo; 0418 song; 0421 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, and `Letterbox`, which is why I tuned in, to reconfirm on final repeat of Sunday show. Informally referring to letters/reports from: India, Germany, Italy, Australia, Italy, Belgium; Alan Holder on Isle of Wight UK, only name we recognize, longtime listener glad to have L`Box back; India, Lithuania. Along the way offered only P-QSLs, no have calendars or any other goodies to send like they used to. During COVID worked from home and didn`t get it. Back next week and ``Goodbye, my lovely listeners, I love all of you``. It`s the regular OM announcer whose name per Alan is Halil Ibrahim Sarikaya, until 0438. Has considerable accent but not impeding comprehension like the YL badax, Efsun Duri Elgeler. Last week this show ran from 0417 to 0429, so the span is now expanded to 0417/0438v, likewise on all the other English transmissions, i.e. those starting on half-hour, :47/:08. DX/SWL/Media Programs amended. The / indicates start/stop range rather than specific times (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.018, Feb 5 at 2313, VOT English in music, JBA direct vs noise. 2331 into UTwente when measured, same offset as earlier above 6125, same squeal and no doubt same transmitter at Emirler where something`s always erroneous, S9+35/45. 2350 multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2352 s/off for the 1330 airing only; 2352.6 IS starts; before 2356 restart IS with German IDs; cut off 2359.3* before extraneous German can start and uncovering as always the 5960.000 CCCCCCI from EAST TURKISTAN, std. genocidal denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 35790, Feb 4 at 2155, JBA carrier suspected to be 3 x 11930 R. Martí. Lots of stronger carriers around, presumed birdies. I haven`t watcheard it yet, but I bet this tour of Grimesland makes no mention of its harmonix, heard again Feb 5 about 2310: https://qrper.com/2024/02/proper-qro-k4rlc-tours-the-edward-r-murrow-transmitting-station/ as found by Harald Kuhl in the BDXC-UK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. Thanks this week to Michael Beu, Austin TX for a contribution via PayPal in US funds but not necessarily, to: woradio at yahoo.com and says, ``Glenn, your efforts are much appreciated! Thanks again for WOR - a valuable resource.`` One may also contribute by money order or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. WTF,K? RU, ND beacon, Feb 6 at 0735 as I was almost asleep, did not note the frequency. Listed are 272 kHz in TX, more likely than 275 in NC. This to remind me to check again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. ``Hi Glenn! Just a quick note about your NDB report on 382 kHz. SP is located in Springfield, IL, not Greenland. The call sign of the Greenland NDB is SF. Besides YPL and SF, the only NDBs on 382 kHz with sidebands around 400 Hz from the carrier frequency are BT in Burlington, VT and YE in Fort Nelson, BC. YE was scheduled for decommissioning last August but was reported still transmitting on February 1, 2024. IRS in Sturgis, MI gets out very well but its sidebands are around 1000 Hz from the carrier frequency. Steve Howe, Saint Albans, VT`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) THE TINY TRAP JAMAICA, a ``tiny Caribbean island``, asserts Seth Doane in a story about Bob Marley -- and was axually *in* Jamaica. Maybe you can get this to play: https://www.cbsnews.com/video/kingsley-ben-adir-takes-on-bob-marley-in-the-musical-biopic-one-love/ Among Caribisles it`s the third *largest* after Cuba, Hispaniola. There are far too many truly tiny islands to compare it with, but among nations, how about Monaco? More than 5,769 Monacos could fit into Jamaica. ICELAND, a ``tiny nation``, says Bill Weir in CNN`s `The Whole Story -- What Whales Tell Us`, an otherwise excellent program -- in this case maybe let it pass if ``nation`` refer to population of 378,000 rather than area. But where would be the barrier between tiny and not-tiny; should pop. density be considered? This report dispatched at 0323 UT February 6
