Glenn Hauser logs December 13-14, 2023
Thursday, December 14 2023

Hauser
** CHINA [non]. 5910, Dec 13 at 0446, no signal from CRI via CUBA
supposed to run to 0500, when on blasting away poor Alcaraván Radio,
COLOMBIA, which now lux out with music about 5909.7. Something`s
always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 13 at 0447, RHC S9+20/30 but JBM in presumed
English. They can`t even keep one transmitter going properly. No other
Cubans on 5, 6 or 9 MHz bands. Something`s very wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Finally heard from OG&E guy Dec 13, that two bad
insulators had been found less than a mile away, and indeed the SW
intermittent arcing/buzzing seems to have stopped. Still a loud
continuous buzz worst on LW, apparently something else and he doesn`t
have a radio tuning LW (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Dec 13 at 2300, after ``Camelot`` song in English,
token English from SNR is VG direct; preview topic after news to be
the month-long Xmas lite festival at Vigo which has drawn various
complaints such as light pollution (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Dec 13 at 2327, VOT not off the air,
S9+20/40 into UTwente, starting `Weekly Commentary` by some professor
that ``Biden has already lost Arab-American support``; read by the
badax I am not going to strain to understand. 2345 `Feeling
Supreme/The Healing Spring`, repeat about osteoporosis. 2353 canned
s/off version with correct but incomplete schedule. 2353.5 IS. 2356
restart IS with German IDs. 0000 Dec 14, timesignal few seconds early
and s/on extraneous German, into news. Still going past 0010;
something`s always erroneous at Emirler. 0014 finally cutoff abruptly
uncovering ChiCom music. Ooops, at 0019 hearing German again, so must
have resumed, past 0028+ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4095, Dec 13 at 0441, sweeps upward are JBA from `Desert
Whooper` which periodically CWs as DW. Vs S9 local noise level. Often
passed in bandscans but seldom bothered to relog.

Likewise I always check 2097.3 for the single-letter beacon A from
Anywhere except Quartzsite AZ, but haven`t heard a trace of it since
last winter? Must be QRT. Must pause on 2097 USB for at least 11
seconds since its cycle was 10 sex (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2220 monitoring: confirmed UT
Wednesday December 13 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+20 direct.

Brief awakening, sometime before 1300 Wed Dec 13 tried for Unique
Radio, Australia, 5035 USB but as expected zero signal from this LP
direct.

Also confirmed Wednesday December 13 at 1520 on WRMI 9955, S5/S7, the
unscheduled 1500 supposedly on Thu instead of Wed.

Not confirmed Wed Dec 13 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490 -48 Hz = 7489.952 into
Maryland SDR -- instead replaying last week`s 2219. They should have
had access to the latest 2220 as usual. Compared to WWV 5 & 10 this
SDR is accurately calibrated. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Thanks to S. P. McGreevy, Keeler, CA, for a generous contribution via
PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com --- ``DXcellence forever!``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, Dec 13 at 0454, WRMI is not off the air but S9+20/30
with `Legends` promo, very undermodulated i.e. not quite qualifying as
just-barely, and moremod on // 5050 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 3215, Dec 13 at 0440, WWCR is suptorted with talk, yet
S9+20/30; wiggle that patchcord. Not // 4840, 5890 or 5935 with OK
modulation. Dead giveaway that no one at 1300 WWCR Ave can stand to
constantly listen to their own gospel huxters to detect and fix any
problems, yet they foist them upon the wideworld. Scheduled this hour
on WWCR-1 is `Call to Decision` --- sorry, Butch (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 7505, Dec 13 at 0451, S9+20 of deadair from WRNO, then some
JBM music, at first suspected as an understation but nonesuch
scheduled, so guess it`s WRNO itself. 0746 recheck, S9/+25 of deadair
only. Something`s messed up at Metairie (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, Dec 13 at 0803 UT tune-in, just as rock music
breaks for ID as KLEY Wellington KS and two FM translators -- no
shame, obviously 250 watt day power instead of legal ONE WATT at
night; normally dominates KWKH and anything else here. Used to be on
100.3, but moved to 104.1 K281DI per WTFDA FM DB, which yet still
shows branding as 100.3 The Wave. No hits if you search on KLEY in the
`Relay of` field: it has to be KLEY-1130, and no other translator hits
either with that. Format AC, no longer Country as in NRC AM Log. At
least it`s not jointly IDing with sibling station, probably same
computer bank, KKLE 1550 Winfield KS which is bluegrass.

1130, Dec 13 at 1901 UT I listen again carefully for ID: no `The Wave`
branding, just `a My Town Media station` - I think, hard to understand
but that is the current licensee; second translator chex as K281DI, and
the first one maybe a -262- which = 100.3, so is that still on the
air? No such xltr anywhere in KS per FCC and WTFDA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Dec 13 at 0432:
891, 963, 1431 kHz; Algeria and two more intriguing ones (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1090 kHz, Dec 13 at 0802 UT, maybe trace of a tone under
presumed KAAY AR. KMXA Aurora CO had been reported intoning all night;
still? It`s 50/0.5 kW. Could be mistaken for a TA or TP het from 1089
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0028 UT December 14
