Glenn Hauser logs September 16, 2023
Sunday, September 17 2023

Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Sept 16 at 1921 tune-in via
Argentine remote, LRA36 ID and credits, into another anniversary
salute with a song, S7/9+5. I guess they signed on somewhat earlier,
but nothing there at previous chex before and after 1800. Still going
at 1943 check with `Uniendo Voces`; at 2108 with LRA36 mention; 2126,
``comunicad``. Still at 2242 music, off by 2300 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ASCENSION. 21645, Sept 16 at 1507, JBA S4/S5 is the OSOB except for
21550 Algeria. EiBi shows it`s BBC Hausa, only on Saturdays at
1300-1700; for anything besides stupid ballgames? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CANADA. 6754 USB, Sept 16 at 0418, Trenton Military, CHR
reactivated after weeks of silence whenever checked at random,
likewise day frequency 15034 USB. But it`s an exercise in futility as
it`s ``No report received`` from everywhere, at first Canadian
locations only, both for aviation weather and terminal forecasts; by
0434 ditto for Thule and European airports. At 0419 UT, time announced
as ``0020Zulu`` when it`s really almost that hour EDT!! Same kind of
error always happened last time it was active. This was via Georgia
remote. I was not hearing it direct at first due to? underpowered?
propagation? R1 blackouts have occurred. My high line noise level.

Richard Lacroix and I may take credit for its reactivation. Since I
had asked him if he had any news from his contacts at Trenton about
its status, whether it would ever come back. He tells me at 0248:

``Hummmm, I left a message today with one of my contacts, the LF/HF
Team Lead, and interesting enough, 6754 is now back on-air, loud and
clear, with "no report received" and still not in the EST, not UTC
time zone. No response to my e-mail yet. I will be curious about the
explanation. Richard``

Maybe they just needed a reminder? By 0640, 6754 USB has become JBA
direct, about equal to my S9 noise level.

Richard said it should switch to 15034 USB at 1100 and he was hearing
it at 1300, but not me at 1504 nor at 1555 into Maryland SDR. At 1616
it`s audible at Missori remote; still only ``no report received``. By
1818 I finally detect 15034 JBA direct. Well, that`s a start (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT [and non]. 9439.995, Sept 16 at 2143, no signal from R. Cairo
during 2115+ English sesquihour, into UTwente. Something`s always
egregious in Egypt. Of course they will try again and fail again over
and over. By 2200 there is some other weak signal just above 9440.
That hour is listed as BBC English via Philippines to Indonesia.
Qahira could QRM that when on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17450, Sept 16 at 1505, JBA carrier and nothing
else below 17500, presumed Turkish jammer which has not caught up with
major schedule -- and name! change of Dengê Welat, as reported by Tony
Rogers to BDXC-UK:

``Dengê Gel on 11510 kHz --- Dengê Gel (Voice of the People) has a new
schedule according to their website. The station was previously called
Dengê Welat. Translated from denge-gel.org

"Our radio, the Voice of the People, goes to the winter frequency.
From September 15 onwards, our radio will broadcast on 2 frequencies.
According to this, the new frequencies are as follows. Diyarbakır time
from 06:30 to 19:00 on frequency 11.540 kHz. It is on the frequency of
7.460 kHz from 19:00 to 01:00."

Converted to UTC this would be 0330-1600 on 11540 kHz and 1600-2200 on
7460 kHz. Presumably this is via Tashkent. However, I found them at
1115 UTC today (16 September) on 11510 kHz instead, matching the live
stream on their website. They were previously on the 16 metre-band
around 17450-17485, shadowed by a Turkish music jammer (which is still
on 17450 today). 73's Tony`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950 AM, Sept 16 at 0125 just a bit after posting my
previous log, another ID: ``WAVE Radio, we are very existential, ride
the wave`` as heard via NH remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 20, Sept 16 at 0206 UT, area tropo is up visiblizing
KBZC-LD, OKC, virtual 42. Logged a number of times before but now I
compare it to rabbitears.info info. Unlike most multi-subchannel
stations, this one displays the same PSIP ID on all of them, KBZC-LD.
Makes it harder to ID the individual subs, not always with clear bugs
of their own. Like 42-1 illegible algo #LFN ? in UR. Has open
captioning in English altho the audio is already in English. As far as
I can tell, they do correlate with rabbitears.info info:

42-1 20.1001 720p DD2.0 KBZC-LD Visión Latina
42-2 20.1002 480i (w) DD2.0 KBZC-LD beIN Sports Xtra
42-3 20.1003 480i (w) DD2.0 KBZC-LD BUZZR
42-4 20.1004 480i DD2.0 KBZC-LD RVTV
42-5 20.1005 480i DD2.0 KBZC-LD [Blank]
42-6 20.1006 480i DD2.0 KBZC-LD Infomercials
42-7 20.1007 480i DD2.0 KBZC-LD Shop LC

I have not found what (w) means. 42-6 at the time was about Legal
Help. On the way to oblivion, but by 0231 has faded to breakups
providing ever-changing unique views of DTV art!

RF DTV: 25 13 20 23. FM: 102.7 94.7 96.1 101.9. Xltrs: 89.5 90.5
I was not aware of that before, very handy as it would be very tedious
to compare the exact G.C. of all other local FM and TV sites. With
full details including exact heights and callsigns I have omitted.
KWTV atop at 1568 feet AGL, i.e. it`s their original tower for analog
9, first hyped as 1572 feet, the tallest anywhere.

KBZC-LD last logged May 6, 2023 and multiple times in 2016, 17, 18,
19, 20. It was originally licensed to Enid on 42 in 2016 but never
seen as a local. First seen Nov 10, 2016 from OKC on RF 42 before
repack.

At the outset of latest log, besides several BAD signals, the only
other LP decoding was RF 34 33-1 KWRW-LD (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Sept 16 at 2158, VOT IS & English IDs, not off
the air today, S9+50/55 into UTwente. Timesignal about 10 sex early
before 2200 even considering internet delay. What`s the point? False
implication of general accuracy. Modulation starts OK this time. First
news about aid to Libya. 2211 song, now distortion is annoying. 2215
two-minute multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2217 song with drumming. 2221
travelog about Ephesus, some other place on Black Sea; with lots of
distorted musical intervals. 2228 finishes, another distsong. 2231
`Gripping Piles` about a neural network, language learning. 2234
music. 2237 multilingual ID filler reel crutch *again*. Song. 2243
`Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products` on carpets. 2246 another song: now
the music distortion is terrible. A pity TRT ruin some otherwise nice
music thus. 2252 sign/off. 2254 IS. 2256 restart IS, now with German
IDs interspersed twice a minute to 2257* depriving us of any
accidental German hour. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
