Glenn Hauser logs August 1-2, 2023

Hauser
** CANADA. Further random check of 6754 USB during the night of August
1 UT, and of 15034 USB during the following day have not found any
signals from CHR, Trenton Military VOLMET. Nor on August 2. EiBi shows
one more Trenton frequency, 11232, not VOLMET but presumably for 2-way
contacts; anything there? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, August 2 at 0629, RHC Spanish prolongation here
tonight, S9+20 and good modulation for a change, no spurs either.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440.004, August 2 at 2155, R. Cairo horribly distorted
English, first reading by UTwente, maybe synching on a mod peak other
than carrier center, then settling on usual 9439.995 at S9+20/40;
totally unlistenable. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, August 2 from a few sex past *1500 open
carrier on, S6/S9 direct; finally at 1502 English ID as VOMK,
undermodulated; 1503+ switch to YL in presumed Dhivehi with better
modulation. This is totally normal daily reception despite target
opposite side of globe; and K-index at 15 is 4, which should be
disturbing high-latitude paths. 1529 quick ID and s/off in English
before 1530*. For over a year this has been listed as Uzbekistan site
and some accept that, but I do not. Tashkent does not provide such
good reliable reception here for any other broadcast, and V. of
Martyrs Korea will not disclose true site for some reason. Reasonable
guesses are Taiwan or Reach Beyond Australia, which carries some other
VOMK broadcasts. In fact, the latest WRTH update of August 1 now shows
under Korea South, 11630knx for this, i.e. Kununurra, Australia. It`s
still missing from HFCC; Aoki says Tashkent, and EiBi as clandestine,
/XUU = unknown. TDoA direxion-finding in past sometimes pointed to one
or the other, but is extremely unreliable. At 1525 I decide to try it
again, while hearing it well via Western Australia KiwiSDR: picking 3
sites: Hanoi, Qatar and South Africa. It runs and comes up with ``most
likely`` 12.00 S, 18.00 E, i.e. Kuemba, ANGOLA. Yeah, surely not. And
what are the chances of a true reading landing on exact .00
coördinates? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non?]. Large tropo blob to the east of Enid, August 2
at 0456 UT when I start checking. BAD signals on RF: 7, 9, 11, 14, 16,
17, 18, 24, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36. Note that 7, 18, 24 and 29 are major
`local` OKC signals which must be disrupted by DX QRM: extremely
unusual especially for KOKH 24, probably by KFSM Fort Smith? No, KFSM
is on both low-power 24 and high-power 18. 16 KOCM is normally on the
BAD side. 17 is also Enid`s only local: can`t be sure whether it`s off
or QRMed, but next morning it`s normal. Only decodes around 0500:

RF 31, KOET 3-1 = OETA Eufaula
RF 20, KQCW 19-1 for Tulsa
RF 21, KHBS-DT 40-1 Fort Smith AR from OK site, so explore all subs:
40-2 ARK-CW, 40-3 MeTV-AR, 40-4 STORY. These match rabbitears listings
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wednesday August 2 at 2200, token English from SNR:
VG into Maryland SDR, but part 2 about famous football players, no
news. Geez, isn`t anything significant happening in Spain? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Aug 2 at 2200, VOT English VG into UTwente and
sufficient direct, even good modulation, usual features but am dozing
thru most of it, having missed naptime earler this afternoon. Off
before 2300 (Glenn Hauser, 104F OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2201 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn: Confirming World of Radio #2201, notes, loggings, 9395
kHz, rough conditions hearing sometimes no signal on 9395 kHz, solar
blackout, WRMI: 9395, static in area, QRN, 0031, 0045, 0054 (45343),
0059, 0130, August 1 UTC 2023. 73’s, Richard``

NOT confirmed Tuesday August 1 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, because it`s OFF
the air! 9455 & 9955 are on as normal. 9395 is still off at 0639 and
1459 chex August 2. Wonder what`s wrong; it`s a major WOR frequency.
Still off at 2355 August 2; nothing about this on disgraced FB of
WRMI.

Also confirmed Wednesday August 2 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -72 Hz =
7489.928, S5/S7 into Maryland SDR. Next, maybe:

0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Thanks this week to William T Hassig, Mt Prospect IL, ``Congrats on
2200 World of Radios`` with a generous check in US funds on a US bank
to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0001 UT August 3
