Hauser
** CANADA. Replies to my inquiry how to pronounce that town in Ontario
I DXed on 96.5 FM, also mentioned on WOR 2194:

``On your program you reported hearing the CBC French station from
Penetanguishene ON. Great DX catch. I lived up in that area for
several years and used to listen to it often. I don't understand any
French but some of the musical programs were good.

The pronunciation of the town's name is sort of like this.
Pena - tang - guishene (rhymes with machine) - Doug Brown, London
ON``

``Hi Glenn, Vern from Toronto here. I’ve recently returned to
SWL/DX’ing after a lengthy absence. Sad to find that so many beloved
stations are now gone, but gratified that you’re still doing your
excellent work. Enjoyed the program back in the ‘70s and am enjoying
it now!

Anyway, it’s pronounced peh-na-TANG-wish-een. Often shortened by
locals to Penetang (PEH-na-tang). Listen, here:
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0b/Penetanguishene.ogg

I’ve never been there, because I don’t drive and public transport to
small towns in Ontario is practically non-existent. It looks quite
picturesque, though. Amazing that you heard an FM station from there
in Oklahoma! Best regards, Vern Nicholson`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** CHAD [non]. 15505, June 12 at 0637, ME or Af lang? S8/S9. EiBi
shows it`s R Ndarason Internationale, this hour via Woofferton UK,
plus another hour 07-08 on same via Ascension. Language KNU = Kanuri
but WRTH 2023 page 667 shows also Kanembu and French, q.v. for details
about station background. It`s a target broadcast but not clandestine
with studios in Chad and Nigeria. Ndarason means ``wherever you go``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, June 12 at 0640, RHC English in mailbag UT Monday,
S9/+10 with squeal, this date`s after-hours frequency again and
nowhere else. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15136.154V, June 12 at 1526, JBA carrier and another one
15143.955, i.e. just about same displacement minus/plus from strong
15140 RHC, so spurs out of that. My best measurements direct but
checking Missouri SDR at 1558 I get 15136.002, 15140.002 and
15144.002, an even more perfect match. At 1825 I check the calibration
of that on WWV 15000 and find it right on with slight variations
plus/minus fraxion of 1 Hz, surely receiver not transmitter
instability. At 1830+ RHC 15140 has double audio feed, Spanish atop;
the other maybe scheduled Creole, and now are slightly mostly on minus
side of each. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. Excerpting the XH-only logs and duplicating them from my UT
June 10 USA and non FM DX report, q.v. for methodology:

Here we go, Mexicans! No problem penetrating metal garage door on the
south with car facing north.

95.5 at 1740, ``La Comadre 95.5 FM`` ads for Día del Padre, mentions
Yucatán, Ciudad del Carmen, by SHVA = super-hype voice actor. Multiple
Comadre IDs in promos; the word means midwife, or gossip. Promo SIPSE
news at 7 am, no ACI from no 95.7 KXLS, and over CCI from 95.5
``Country Leader``, see below. 1745 finally back to live DJ/talkhost
with a sidekick who reverbs, sports discussion about rhythmic
gymnastix, BKB. Still Spanish here at 1754, no others. Carmen is in
Campeche, adjacent state to Yucatán:

92.3 at 1801, Spanish in CCI mix with Fox ``news``; only copied ``El
Sonido`` and music. Maybe just words not a branding, for nonesuch
found on WTFDA. Broad search leads to Uruguay, on 92.3 ``Sonido
Urbano`` of FM Libertador: I suspect that`s not it. Another 92.3
below

96.7 at 1810, Spanish and music as the 92.3 and 95.5 SS above are no
longer audible so unlikely same PTA? But like definite 95.5 there is
another in Campeche:

97.3 at 1812, much stronger than the 96.7 just logged, Spanish, dance
music, YL vocal with disco beat, then ``Radio Fórmula 97.3, una
emisora de --?--`` At 1815, TC as ``12:15``, so CST of UT-6, no longer
CDT of UT-5 in central Mexico. At 1821 another ``R. Fórmula 97.3``
promo vs country CCI. 1833 sportstalk about bolitas still VG. This is
the only Fórmula on 97.3:

100.3 at 1826, ``una estación del Núcleo Comunicación del Sureste``,
``campechanos``, in & out; 1836 mentions Campeche, seems // stronger
97.3 sports talk above XHRAC Campeche. From my notes not sure whether
this heard on 97.3 or 100.3: at 1842, programa de coches 97.3, Carmen,
mentions Telemar, i.e. Campeche TV channel:

95.3 at 1856, Spanish music vs KOKC translator, likely still PTA
Mérida as the six SS in TX are all religious and less than 3 kW except
for one; 1900 SHVA ID missed vs CBS News on KOKC; but 1901 mentions
Mérida, Yucatán:

Also mentioned ``mera, mera``?, a slogan on some stations, surely
meaning something else than literally, mere, mere. IIRC, Candela
briefly on the 6105 SW transmitter before it vanished forever.

99.3 at 1904, Spanish mentions Mérida, Yucatán, partial call XHM##,
``en todas partes, 99.3 X-FM``. The X sounded like English ``eks`` or
``ex``; but spelt EXA: I`ve wondered how they say it:

101.5 at 1906, Spanish too strong for SS Okeene OK, overriding it, and
secular song not religious. At 1910, 93.9 ID from OK, LP which has a
higher power relay on 101.5. 1916 slow ballad again, so let`s prolong

** TURKEY. 11785.009, June 12 at 2208, VOT English, VG S9/+15 into
UTwente, also VG modulation -- except in music somewhat
overmodistorted. `Review of the Turkish Press`, Istanbul airport
setting records as busiest in Europe - over 1,000 takeoffs and
landings in one day. 2210 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2213 song with
drumming. 2215 `Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring` on preventing
fatty liver, #1 best food: artichokes. 2323 song. 2127 `New Day, New
Choice` - a new feature? About plans for Turx to go to ISS, physical
spex and training, defecation methods. 2235 multi-lingual ID filler
reel, *again*. 2237 `Did You Know That` Antolya is the home of grape
cultivation - this one by the badaccentedess so at first I thought she
was saying ``grave``. 2241 ``Always by your side`` promo, music. 2245
multi-lingual ID filler reel *AGAIN*, third time this hour, how lame,
more distorted music. 2252 s/off by badaccentedess with usual partial
English schedule not including this one. 2254 IS. 2257 still going
with German ID: hier wir gehen auch. 2300 timesignal a few sex late

``Die Stimme von Türkiye``. 2312 still going with the 2-minute
multi-lingual filler reel. 2323 `Healing Spring` theme but I did not
understand German title; also about liver. 2334 `DYKT` theme, etc.,
etc., finally chopoff at 2346*. Something`s always erroneous at

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2194 monitoring: confirmed Sunday

and audible, also 15770 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. Another sporadic-E FM DX opening, Saturday June 10
from 1652 to 1926 UT. Starts with isolated opening from Utah, soon
lots of Mexicans from Yucatán, Campeche, at least. I start at 1630 UT
as area tropo is also up from KS, OK with some stations not normally
audible, into north Texas, which means more QRM than usual on `open`
DX frequencies. Such non-Es logs are included, to note or reconfirm
branding. To boot, two major local signals from Enid are off the air:
95.7 and 107.1!

Es FM DX: gotta take it whenever it decide to happen! In the not too
hot garage, on the Nissan Sentra 2004 stock caradio with fender
vertical antenna only, so no antenna manipulation but disfavoring any
horizontal-only stations, if any; all logs in real
time with my own ears, one frequency at a time, no RDS capability, no
recording, no internet for stream comparisons; but research later from
my scribbled notes, mainly the excellent WTFDA FM Database, also in
general searching if needed.

All times strictly UT! Numbers just before geo coordinates are kW ERP
and antenna height above average terrain in meters. Identical horiz
and vert figures, u.o.s. Last figures are distances in km/stmi
city-to-city so approx., not site-to-city, from distancefromto.net.
Showing distance does not necessarily make a log more definite, but
FYI. This time I bother with distances only for the Mexicans.

I do not count stations, states or anything, what`s `new` or not,
and am not in a competition. Each DX log I view as a potential
learning experience. Clarifications, correxions welcome.

Circa 1705, 1730 and many other tunebys, I notice a *slight* increase

102.9 and 103.3 would be expected to have higher ACI: Could this
explain 102.7 KJYO OKC being inaudible despite equivalent coverage to
many other OKC stations? IF KOFM is running ``HD`` and IF it affect
2nd-adjacents more than first-adjacents?? WTFDA not shows HD on KOFM,

WTFDA does not show Leader branding for any but the KWEN website does
so Tulsa leads: https://www.k95tulsa.com/ -- original call suggested
``Queen`` to go with 92.5 KKNG ``King`` in OKC.

104.9 at 1751, ``Power 104-9``. WTFDA shows nonesuch anywhere; and I`m
not positive of the word; could be similar, like Tower?
Never mind the phantom EWTN in Ringwood, otherwise 3 Okies listed,
KREK BRISTOW, KKWD BETHANY, KRIG-FM NOWATA, possibly one of?
However a broad search on Power 104.9 gets some not in WTFDA:
WTSX Kokomo IN, and WSTV Jonesboro/Atlanta GA. But WTFDA puts WSTV in
Roanoke VA! But no DX opening known from any of those areas.

97.3 at 1756, ID as KCNP, Peace Talks Radio, probably a program name.
1800 ID as Chickasaw Community Radio with 3 or 4 stations.
KTNG 97.3 CONNERSVILLE OK Silent VARIETY CHICKASAW COMMUNITY RADIO 6.0
96.0 34-25-55 96-37-11 -- aha, 97.3 is certainly not silent now. And
KCNP is really their 89.5 base? station. All of them FYI but the
others not heard:

92.3 at 1801, Spanish in CCI mix with Fox ``news``; only copied ``El
Sonido`` and music. Maybe just words not a branding, for nonesuch
found on WTFDA. Broad search leads to Uruguay, on 92.3 ``Sonido
Urbano`` of FM Libertador: I suspect that`s not it. Another 92.3
below

95.7 at 1806, in continued absence of local KXLS, and not KKAJ either,
gospel huxter in English briefly, so another OKC translator; this
explains why 95.1, the real KQCV-FM need not be // 800, but not
knowing this till later, did not check 800. Also 95.7 at 1830, Friends
of Israel Radio Today, Bott Network jingle, //94.3 KS and 95.1 OK:
K239BT relays:KQCV-800 95.7 THE VILLAGE OK RELIGIOUS TEACHING BOTT
RADIO NETWORK 0.25 211.0 35-33-26 97-28-31 D2ED

96.7 at 1810, Spanish and music as the 92.3 and 95.5 SS above are no
longer audible so unlikely same PTA? But like definite 95.5 there is
another in Campeche:
XHESE-FM 96.7 CHAMPOTÓN CAMP MEX Spanish REGIONAL MEXICAN KE BUENA 6.0
64.25 19-21-09 90-42-50 2019/1255

XHTU FM Classical 2101/1306

Or, Spanish 96.7, instead of an XH could be this:
KOYE 96.7 FRANKSTON TX USA Spanish REGIONAL MEXICAN LA INVASORA 92.3 &
96.7 50.0 150.0 32-02-22 95-24-39 //KTLH 107.9
A bit far: Frankston is SE of Dallas halfway to Nacogdoches

XHMI-FM 100.3 SAN FRANCISCO DE CAMPECHE CAMP MEX Spanish CONTEMPORARY

95.3 at 1856, Spanish music vs KOKC translator, likely still PTA
Mérida as the six SS in TX are all religious and less than 3 kW except
for one; 1900 SHVA ID missed vs CBS News on KOKC; but 1901 mentions
Mérida, Yucatán:
XHMH-FM relays:AM 970 95.3 MÉRIDA YUC MEX Spanish REGIONAL MEXICAN
CANDELA FM 25.0 107.0 20-57-58 89-37-27 1893/1176

At 1910, 93.9 ID from OK, LP which has a
higher power relay on 101.5. 1916 slow ballad again, so let`s prolong
the Yuc PTA:

100.3 at 1920 Spanish YL news // 97.3 are back, the Campeche stations
as above, but last gasp, no more DX by 1926 when I quit and hope the
opening really be over.

Researching and compiling this report not completed until 2355 UT

Monday June 12, 0243-0325 from north; all of which will take me a few
more days to compile (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)
